I just received a tub of Lavanille. I cannot comment on its performance as of yet. I will shave with it in the morning. I did quickly load a brush and test lather on my hand. The scent, while I like it, is very unique and strong. But, the most unique part is that the soap has a tint of chocolate and the lather is a light brown.

This is the first soap or cream I have used that the lather is really any other color than white. Even when I use a dark lavender or deep rose colored soap or cream, the lather has always been almost white. This is a little confusing to me. I'm not yet sure my final thoughts.

I will give it a go tomorrow. I'm sure that the shave will be as expected with a B & M product. I just hope I can get past shaving with a brown lather.

Has anyone experienced other soaps or creams that have a distinctively different color, other than white, when they shave?

Barrister and Mann has a certain ingredient in some soaps that oxidize when touching air I believe. Vanillin? Maybe? But a few soaps are like this. Night Music, and Vanille are two others.

Anything with vanillin. B&M has Lavanille, Vanille, and Night Music, all with it.

The Vanillin used oxidizes and turns it brown. Just a heads up, that soap is THIRSTY! Make sure you give it plenty of time and water to get the best lather. It will be worth your while. Top performer to say the least!

If you dig that one, you may also like 'Beaudelaire', a mossier funkier variety, used the Mousse De Saxe in it as well. Also, forthcoming 'Hallows', a seasonal for fall, is an even earthier variety, same family.

Lavanille was chocolatey to my nose and I wish I got more of that lavender note but it never came across to me. It definitely is a stronger smelling scent.

I dislike the fact that it stains the brush. It completely goes away after a few days of using the brush but I would never use a high end HMW with it. I reserve my vig sheng and black satin tip for my soaps that has vanillin.

That was my other concern that it might stain my brushes. I will use cheaper brushes with it to start and see its long term effects.

I have not had any issues with soaps containing vanilla causing stains. They tend to have cappucino-brown lather, which I find off-putting, but my brushes rinse just fine.

So, it doesn't permanently stain your brush?

I had one brush, a Shavemac 2-band, stained after using Night Music for the first time, and it took a good have dozen lathers with another soap to get it out. Since then, I've only used an inexpensive synthetic with Night Music, although I haven't noticed any further staining, nor have I noticed any staining with any of Will's other soaps.
