Never enough of the right ones, in all honesty there are about three razors I covet as I have all the other ones I want in my collection.

Jamie, I thought once you had your "Holy Grail," the coveting was over?

Richard my Iwasaki is my grail razor but there are three other razors out there I would like to own not saying they would be keepers but I certainly would like to see if they would make the grade.

currently have about 25-30 if you dont include cheapo gold dollars/zy's that i just feed to my hones from time to time. almost all are full/extra hollow, with 1 W&B wedge and 1 kami

really debating selling off a few of them and some hones since i have so many sitting around that only see use from time to time.

question for some of you guys with the larger collections(70+). do you just rotate through the collection or do you have a few specific razors that you reach for the majority of the time? the way it sits for me my whole collection is shaving exceptionally but i still find myself reaching for the same 5~ razors almost every time, unless i'm testing a new edge, its pretty much the same razors seeing use with any sort of consistency.

I think I have 25 at this point.  I am still trying to figure out which ones I want to keep. So I will be downsizing to a respectable rotation at some point.

I'm at about 24 or so. Seems that I've pretty much reached my natural saturation point. A little over half of my straight razors are the ones I like to rotate through. My only complaint is the time spent on keeping them sharp. Sometimes I think it would be easier if I only had one good one like my long-departed grandfather did.

It seems when it comes to SRs it seems there is always room for one more in the collection.  I am up to 28 now...all vintage antique store finds.  I do own one modern...a Dovo 6/8. I enjoy rescuing them and restoring them to their former glory.  I also try to only buy those that I will use.

500 or so straights. 3-350 ready to go and growing. About 150 Gillettes and that many SEs.  Dozens of brushes, all sorts of shaving memorabilia ( razor cards, displays, ads and dispenser )
Many times just to have a razor for the days shave I'll grab an old one , restore it and it's added to the rotation.
It's fun.

I had almost 20 in rotation and now seem to be going the other way, I am slowly figuring out what I like and selling off the ones I don't, I believe my current rotation is down to like 12-14

I have 19 at the moment. I have no official rotation, but I do go through them all pretty regularly.
There are 5 or 6 that I tend to go to a bit more than others, though.
I've been straight shaving for about two and a half years, and have settled on the type of blade I like the most; 6/8, full hollow,  spike point, Sheffield steel, although the vintage American steel is beloved as well.
I would eventually like to have a mix of good examples of both, about 10. The rest of what I own I would retire or PIF. Those 10 would do me the rest of my days, if I can find them.
BTW, this thread is near useless without pictures.
So here are my 7 favorites.
Top H. Elshaw ans son, Sheffield, 51 The Victor, Novelty Cutlery Co., Canton Ohio.
Bottom
Christopher Johnson, Sheffield England, Moershfelder, Buffalo, Clauss, Freemont Ohio, and my FIL's Boker SS St. Louis.
These are the blades I reach for most often.

I have 38, mostly Swedish straight razors (17 are MK*31s) and 9 Aristocrats, mostly made in England. I am not actively looking to expand my collection by rather use and enjoy what I have. Most of what I have is NOS or very close, I like pristine condition in my oldies but goodies.

I currently have 14 in my collection/ rotation.  Only three I bought new. All of the rest are antique store rescues. When I am looking for another rescue I always take my Carson micro-brite pocket microscope. The people that work in the antique stores give me lots of funny looks.  I examine the blades very close, looking for rust pits, chips, etc. I get a really good idea of just how much honing I'm going to do to bring these razors back to life. I'm always on the lookout for another SR.  Can't have to many

I have about 50-60 not counting Gold Dollar and eBay test razors and 'duds'. I do collect pairs so if you were talking to a normal person you might reduce that number a bit.

But I'm always looking for a good Japanese or French razor.

Cheers, Steve
