When I Coloniali decided to stop producing their shaving line, it got me thinking of all of the great shaving soaps from yesteryear. Some of my favorites include the Yardley Black Label shaving soap and the old tallow Trumper Shaving soaps. In order to define vintage I am going to arbitrarily limit it to soaps that were discontinued by 2009. Which soaps make your list?

I never had the pleasure of using Floris Tallow. I do enjoy the Penhaligon's tallow. Great soaps.

Tallow Trumper is by far my favorite performer, vintage or otherwise.  I had the tallow Floris and wasn't nearly as impressed.  Yardley is very good and the standard by which all other soaps are judged, yes it's a very high standard.

My only experience was with  Tumpers tallow in rose. I bought  a wooden bowl  and two refill pucks from Lee and everyone was horrified I spent@ $50. I still had the refills and gifted my nephew upon discovering MWF. His father made cracks about using girl soap. I told him to send them back after learning he bought Barbasol. He had thrown them in the trash.

Penhaligons and Floris 89.  I feel the Floris is slightly better than the Pens.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to try tallow Trumpers or tallow Yardley, but have taken advantage of the resurfacing of the Art of Shaving tallow Sandalwood on ebay and simply love it.

They say that you never miss, what you haven't experienced but shave soap may be the exception.

I've never used a no-longer-made soap, I would probably go with Williams.

Kaloderma

Maybe 50 years old or even more. Outstanding performance like the very best. Very mild scent of gardenias. Outstanding balsamic postshave skin feeling.
Sometimes a few of them pop up at ebay.

Do that, I Coloniali IMHO is still my best performing soap, admittedly a good few others are also up there in quality.

I have one Terracotta open and a new one waiting (perhaps for next decade with all the soaps I own)
