It took a while, but I finally found "my blade" for the ATT SE1 razor. It required going through all 5 of the easily available Artist Club type blades and proved to me what a devotee I am of mild razors and blades. Considering my affection for the Feather AS-D2 razor I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised. I also do well with Gillette TECH and NEW, both SC and LC.
The following blades were tried in this order using a very shallow angle for all:
1. Feather Professional
2. Feather Professional Super
3. KAI Captain Titan Mild
4. KAI Captain Blade
5. Kai Captain Titan Mild PROTOUCH MG (with guard)
Numbers 1, 2 and 4 were just too aggressive for me. With my 'less than perfect' technique reduced by virtue of a stroke, they all produced numerous cuts, nicks and weepers. Good shave, but too much of the foregoing.
Number 3 was an improvement with only a nick or two and allowing a much more comfortable and carefree shave. Shave was just as close with my normal passes and light touch-up.
Number 5 was the charm! Almost as carefree as the AS-D2 and still produced a near BBS shave with my normal passes. Now, all that remains is to see how many shaves number 5 will provide before degradation sets in. Judging from what I've read of others' SE1 experiences, treat the above with a healthy dose of YMMV!

Thanks, Beamon! In the earliest stage of what will someday be the same experiment with the Mongoose. What I read before I bought led me to start out with the Kai Captain Titan Mild - I'm on my fourth blade, and while I can get 10 shaves (maybe more) from each blade, I've settled on just replacing it after 7. In 30+ shaves I've had two nicks and a weeper, even with my beginner's technique.
I'm going to give the Feather Pro a shot at the next change (most people I've read have settled on this, barely edging out the Kai Mild in my super-unscientific review of the literature).
Yours is only the second mention of the Protouch I've seen, and it's likely to be my third model.
Thanks again,
