Hello all,

As I'm new to DE shaving,  I respectfully ask for your opinions about the Maggard slant razor.
The reason I'm asking is because I use and love the Ikon X3 slant and I want another slant to add to my razor collection and the Maggard is very reasonably priced.
Has anyone tried both and what is the experience with the Maggard.
The qualities I love about the Ikon is the effortless cutting, also the way it glides like butter down the face. It seems to address the difficult spots more efficiently than any other DE I have ever used.

The Ikon X3 is a better razor head. Cuts more effortlessly and to me feels better on the face. Nothing wrong with the Maggards and it is a good slant razor head, just not as good as the Ikon.

The Maggard is a bit more aggressive than the X3. Had the aggressive side of the X3 not been muted down so much, there would be no need for the Maggard. As things are, I think the Maggard is sufficiently different from the X3 to be a nice addition to your razors.

Thank you, this is what I was looking for, a difference in aggressiveness. Now I have to have one. The X3 is a wonderful razor, but I always wondered if it was a bit more aggressive.

Have you tried the PAA Slant bakelite razor? It's retailing for only $20 and it's gotten great reviews.

I had the PAA bakelite razor, and it was a wonderful razor until I dropped it into the sink...unfortunately it hit at the wrong angle and broke. But it was a nice razor, for sure.

The Maggard's seems to be aggressive, the x3 is a little bit inefficient in my experience.

I do like my razors to have some weight, this way I can control it better and this bakelite is light.

Just ordered the ikon slant head today. Will test when it arrives. Any tips for the novice slant user?

I have two Ikon X3 slants and they are my mostly go to razors if I'm not testing a new arrival.
They are great razors, but you have to be careful as the efficiency they go through stubble can be deceiving.
Use no pressure and let the razor do the job for you. Find the angle using the riding the cup method. You will find it cuts very efficiently areas  other razors have difficulty dealing with.
For my taste it's a bit on the mild side, (very strong, hard stubble), so I use it with the feather and polsilver blades.
Just ordered the Maggard's slant to compare as I read it's more aggressive.
Great buy congrats, enjoy it.

By efficiency, I mean you don't feel the blade cutting, so you tend to press more and this when you get cut. Leave the razor do its job by its own weight.
To my taste I wanted it a bit more aggressive so I changed the handle to a heavier one and this improved it coupled with the feather.
