So I have a question: If you are trying a soap from a manufacturer you've never sampled before and it's available in more than one scent, are you more inclined to start with one scent or try a few right off the top?

If I'm sure enough the quality of the soap is great, I will order 5-6 at a time in my first order.

A few soaps such as Czech and Speake and Pre de Provence have a signaure scent and at best one more. I always give the nod to tradition and the flagship scent first.

I usually order the most popular scent that is close to my likings. If I am satisfied with the performance of a soap, I'll probably order more of this brand but that's not something sure because I like to try different things from different makers. I like variety.

I see you're learning restraint in your old age Claus  Sisi .

I usually start with one and if performance and scent are good I'll look at other scents I may like. Sometimes this works others it fails. I love LPL, and have ordered anything Cyril releases. The performance never disappoints and my least favorite of the scents are still in my rotation (in other words I still like them). SV, I love the Tundra Artica. It's one of my favorite winter scents. Ordered the aromatic fern, and I hate the scent. I've used it twice, and I just don't find it appealing in any way.

I always order a single scent. If a soap happens to turn out to be an outstanding performer and comes in a variety of scents that I might like, I'll then order additional scents. My rotation consists of about a half-dozen different soap makers but with a variety of scents from each one.

If I'm sure of the quality; I order what ever I desire. If not, I'll order one or two or try a mess of samples.

Also one for me...if performance is good enough to stand out, I will eventually order additional scents and perhaps matching AS if available Biggrin

I always start out with one scent, to see how the soap performs.  If I'm pleased with the soap, I'll return to the maker's website and look for other scents I may like.

I usually only order one. Even if I hear good things about it, I need to make sure that I would enjoy that brand. If I do like the brand, I can always order more later.

Same, here; one scent and if the soap performs well, then I will order more.

Usually just one scent to start. If I like the performance but not the scent I'll usually give a second scent a try.

Because I reside in Singapore, it is pretty hard for me to justify the price to get a few sample puck and to buy a few full puck if I like the sample. Rather, I will buy from many different soaps maker(Generally more than 5 artisans at once), if I like the soap, I will do more research about the scent and it will be on my next cart along with a few more new artisan that I want to try.

When I order from USA/Canada (to Sweden) I usually buy two soaps because the shipping is usually about the same as if I order one.

For whatever reason I usually order 2 if the product has gotten good reviews.  Which would be why I ordered it in the first place.  My thinking is to reduce shipping cost and check out multiple scents.

If I am not sure about the performance I will either order one, or samples.

I'm also in the one flavor first camp, with a twist. My first order from a manufacturer is always unscented. Then as others have said, if I like the performance, I may go back and order scented versions that may potentially meet swmbo's sensitive olfactory requirements. Two brands I enjoy that didn't work with this approach are Mitchell's and Proraso, because as we know, they don't make unscented soaps. Interestingly, my bride doesn't like the powdery scent of the MWF, yet prefers the stronger (imo) P-Red and P-Green scents. Go figure.

I actually thought of an exception to my rule of starting with just one soap. Jabonman/Eufros. Because there were so many positive comments on TSN and I knew shipping from Spain would not be cheap, I went with 2. I'm thinking of ordering more from him soon.
