Preface: The model depicted in the photographs is a prototype.

I am fortunate enough to be able to shave with the forthcoming B&R Adjustable razor (a collaboration between Barbaros and Rocnel from the country of Turkey). Upon first seeing and handling the razor, I was impressed. It has a nice weight about it (132g with blade loaded); 89mm height in its lowest setting; 42mm head width with a an exposed blade of 1/2mm making the total width 43mm; 29mm head depth; 10mm head height with blade; 14mm diameter handle with muted (no pointy diamonds) knurling. Handle grip is fine; handle length might be too short for those with larger hands.

My shaving preferences, in order (first being best): straight razor, SE razor, DE razor. DE razors, with their thinner blades, are not friendly to my face. It hasn’t been until the recent wave of modern DE premium razors that I’ve taken an affinity to DE razors. In the photograph above stand some of my DE razors to give a sense of scale.

First and second shave: Immediately I took to this razor and its shaving abilities. The head is not large, giving it maneuverability; blade loading is easy; adjusting is simply a twist of the handle while holding the ends of the head assembly. Out of the chute I was doing Gillette sliding, J-hooking, buffing WTG, XTG and ATG with ease. This is truly a razor where its weight, in conjunction with its adjustability let’s you shave with no irritation using no pressure. For an individual like me who relishes fine-tuning the B&R Adjustable is a DE dream come true! My face has several difficult areas: under the jawline; Adam’s apple; one area at the back chin area right along the jawline. Being one that strives for a BBS shave, it became difficult keeping the grin off my face during shaving to properly shave areas around my mouth. Shave satisfaction is extremely high for me regarding this razor. One of the areas I’m fickle about is the mustache area where I shave ATG to complete this area. Dialing the B&R down to its lowest setting allows me to achieve this with ease. In fact, I’m repeatedly dialing the adjustment throughout shaving to catch that last bit of stubble on various shaving areas of my face.

More photographs and information to come along with closing notes. So, please stay tuned, if you are interested. As it stands, I don’t want to return this razor—I want it for my own collection!

This is really interesting to me, and I'll bet it is to a lot of the members here. Do they have any US distribution set up, or will we have to buy individually from Turkey? Is there any mention yet of the price range or release date? Questions, questions, questions Biggrin.

Yes, I will be carrying them.

Above is a photograph exhibiting the parts of the B&R Adjustable prototype razor. B&R has mentioned that two springs will be supplied with this razor. As you can see in the photograph, if the spring were to fall to the floor and you inadvertently stepped on it, you will need that extra spring. When disabling the compressed base plate it does not fly apart as you simply compress the base plate head assembly together, in one hand, before loosening the threaded flanged sleeve/spacer that screws into the top plate of the base plate assembly. Re-assembling the base plate is a matter of reversing the process. There is a slot in the flanged sleeve/spacer that allows for a properly sized flat bladed screwed driver. However, I used a plastic piece I have that fit the slot to loosen and tighten this part as not to overtighten the part.

Third and Fourth Shaves: Matters have not changed since the first two shaves. My shaving satisfaction remains high with this razor. Typically, I either like a razor’s ability from the first shave or I give the razor extended time if I’m not quite sure how I feel about the razor. My son paid a visit to our residence and I showed him the razor. His comment was that it was heavy. I like the weight since it aids in pressure free shaving, but for those who do not like heavy razors this might be a consideration. A comparison between my HONE Type 15 brass razor that weighs 162g w-blade and the B&R Adjustable weighing 132g w/blade; some shavers have commented that the HONE Type 15 is too heavy and prefer the newer HONE Type 15a fabricated out of aluminum. You’ll have to be your own judge of what you consider a “heavy” razor.

Thanks for the picture of the parts.  Seems like a pretty ingenious design.  Simple yet effective.

I don't mind heavy razors; currently shaving with a Pils copy that weighs a ton.  Previously loved my Tradere on a large UFO handle; that razor weighed even more than the Pils clone does.
