I've never seen silicone as an ingredient in shaving soap or cream.  What brand are you referring to?  Can you post a picture of the ingredient list?

Nivea shaving cream is one that has silicone( dimethicone) in its ingredients list.

I think it's another shaving myth. The percentage is too small to cause damage.

From what I've read, it supposedly makes the badger hairs water- proof. If you ask me, I don't believe it. Also, if someone is so aware about it, he could use other creams or soaps that don't contain dimethicone. Another product that contains it is the Institut du Karite soap.

I just learned something.  Thanks for posting.   Any health issues associated with Dimethicone, which apparently is found in many products?

The primary ingredient in that list is known to greatly accelerate rust. It is also present in 100% of cancerous tumors, and every year, it causes thousands of deaths due to inhalation. I can't believe it hasn't been banned yet.

Silicones (most commonly dimethicone and cyclomethicone) are used in lots of cosmetic goods. Typical use is as an 'occlusive ingredient,' meaning it's supposed to prevent skin or hair from losing moisture/becoming too dry. Many shampoos have silicones in them to do the occlusive thing, but they also help with 'frizzy' hair. A little dimethicone in shaving cream certainly won't do any damage to the brush (it's probably 1% or less of the total formula), and if you fee like it has accumulated to some degree, then just give it a good washing with bar soap or something that doesn't contain silicones - that should get you back to square one.

Brush issue aside, I'm not sure I'd want to use a shaving cream wth dimethicone in it. There are far better products out there without silicones in them.

No! Simple amswer. No shaving cream/ soap can cause cancer. You shouldn't have thrown it away.

Consumers periodically become socially conscious about a compound in the cultural tradition of the scapegoat. It's good to question these ingredients, but the world is saturated with manmade products with negative and positive aspects. I'll leave you with one. SUNSCREEN contains  a benzine directly linked to the bleaching and death of Hawaii's coral reefs. ONE TEASPOON in the saltwater is enough to cause deformities and death in new corals. How many tourists hoping to get DAWGS autograph visit daily drenched in the stuff?
