Long time lurker here. My name is Derek and I'm living in Southern California. I started (DE)wet shaving mid-2011 and have not looked back since then. I started in a different forum, but have been lurking around other forums with the help of tapatalk. I tend to browse and read more than talk and participate. With mention of one of my more recent acquisitions, the Charcoalgoods head, I decided to sign-up and add a bit to the discussion.
I'm a bit of a minimalist so RAD has caused me to buy/sell/gift more than I would like to admit. Ultimately, I would like to own 3, but that's proving more difficult than it sounds. I'm slowly trying to thin the heard, but here is where I am at:

As you may be able to tell, I tend to enjoy shorter handles for maneuverability.

As far as short handles go, I like them a lot. They are often advertised as travel handles, and for that reason, the size may be overlooked.
To me, the shorter size allows a lot of maneuverability around the nose and neck.
The most important thing(IMO) when considering a short handle is to get something that isn't too thin, hollow, or aluminum. You want it to have enough weight so it's not head-heavy.
Please keep in mind that this is all my personal preference so YMMV.
here is sample of the balance of a iKon tuckaway handle and a Maggard MRT handle:
