I recently purchased a Gillette Platinum that didn't seem to have any.

Just out of interest can I ask the difference having the wax or glue dot makes for him?

Not sure of the motivation of the OP, but for me ...... On some blades that have the glue/wax or whatever it is, the stuff comes off on the inside of the top cap or base plate and I find that extremely annoying. YMMV.

Just as an aside, I opened a Gillette Silver Blue that came out of a tuck of 100 that I bought a few years ago. Great blades IME. The glue on this particular blade extended onto the edge in one corner. The wrapper says,"Do Not Wipe." I set it aside back in the wrapper. A week or so later I used it as it was and shaved fine. Still annoying to me though.

For the blades with wax just use a Q tip and lighter fluid and the wax comes right off.....not that big a deal but it works.
