Backbone is stronger on the 2-band.

3-band has an overall softer feel.

What Claus said summarizes it perfectly.

Just like Claus said

-2 band has backbone with soft tips good for face lathering (my personal preference)

-3 band has less backbone and may also have soft tips, but to me this differs from manufacturer to manufacturer.

In Thaters case I haven't ran into a 2 band or 3 band that wasn't soft.

Totally agree. However, if you give the two band some time it certainly will soften. Tips wise, that is.

I have the 4125/3 (28 mm) 2-band bulb. It is a fantastic face lathering brush. Nice backbone. Soft tips. It's like a pillow. The handle is comfortable to boot.

recommended a two band to a very dear friend as his first quality brush.  Hooked him good.  Thaders always seem to be well received.

I enjoy Thater 2 bands, but Thater 3 Bands are no joke. They are the softest knots I have ever tried. The tips on them curl with use and they become soft as cotton. They scream luxury.

The 4125 in either 26 or 28mm are superb brushes.  The choice of 2 or 3 band depends on whether you give priority to softness or backbone.  The 2-band will be soft, but just not as soft as the 3-band.

I agree completely on the above comments regarding backbone difference between the Thater 2 & 3-band brushes.  One other consideration is the bloom of the brush.  Typically, the 3-band will have a larger bloom and therefore feel larger on the face.  Thater 3-band is not as large a bloom as some others but it will be slightly more than the 2-band.  Bottom line with Thater is that either 2 or 3-band brush will be a great choice.

Why would 2 band cost more than 3 band?

Because 2-band hair has a higher price at most brush manufacturers.

So the 3 band has hooked tips? Is it fan or bulb knot? I prefer hooked tip brushes for some reason.

None of them.

Thaters are not about a wall of badger.

You're looking at the wrong brand, if you search for the wall of badger.

I do feel my Thäter 30 mm 2-band bulb has a solid feel, but a wall of badger feel compared to the dense monsters I have owned in the past it is certainly not.

For a wall of badger, look at a Simpson Chubby 3 in all 4 badger hair types, but a CH3 Manchurian and Super 3-band will give you the wall of badger feel, not a Thäter IMHO

FYI Thäter is my current favourite badger brush brand, but a wall of badger it is not and will never be about a wall of badger.

Thäters are about gentle soft velvety badger feel, not a wall of badger.
