This sounds awesome. I've never tried a Gem style razor so this would be interesting, especially if it were affordable.

Go to Ebay or Etsy and buy a $15 GEM MMOC, while you wait.

I guess I was always worried I'd get a POS. The Gems are affordable. Maybe I'll figure out how to pick one out and what type I would like as well. People really do seem to swear by the Gem blades.(10-17-2016, 12:14 PM)SCShaver Wrote:(10-17-2016, 09:11 AM)slantman Wrote: I have been told that a US razor maker is thinking about making a Gem type razor. I know that buying vintage razors is not an easy thing. You have to be careful, know what you're looking for and pay attention to details. You can't imagine how many times I found razors at flea markets or antique stores with flaws or mismatched handles that a newbie would have never paid attention to. You have to know the value of each razor before buying it, otherwise you'll get something that it's overpriced. I bought my both Ever Ready razors with their original packagings for about 25$ each, including shipping, and they are in mint( unused) condition. Needs patience to find the one you're looking for, but it eventually pays off.

Sounds like you know of something which I'm not up to date on. Not surprising as I haven't been focusing on the hobby side of shaving much lately. However, more options using a GEM blade is always going to get my ears burning. I look forward to hearing and hopefully seeing more from you on this.

I love the way all my Gem and ER razors shave, but props have to be given to the Personna PTFE SS GEM blade, the blade makes a lot of difference also.
I rather see SS Gem razor that's made of MIM mold + adjustable instead of highly priced Aluminum machined non adjustable.... Before you all jump and shout " Machined or nothing!" let me tell you that 50% of my Gems and ER's are definatelly not perfect, the top cap almost never aligns with safety bar on the flip tops and for some reason the flip tops even though they are imperfect they are the best shavers AKA the older Flip tops.... as long as the blade sits well aligned with the safety bar and don't have any gap imperfections the top cap do not have to be perfectly aligned with the blade or the safety bar.
Turns out that the Gem razors are excellent shavers even though the top cap don't align well with the safety bar and blade, this leads me to believe that a well thought out design + adjustable with different plates + MIM molded SS metal even if it comes with top cap not being perfect will give a great shave if the deign is well put together + MIM mold will hold prices lover and the price can be competitive as the Supply Provision adjustable injector and the Rockwell 6s adjustable and they both are made of SS that will last forever.
I rather have SS MIM molded adjustable Gem razor for $100 than Non Adjustable Aluminum Gem that is machined and cost $70.
