I was able to get several brushes direct from Lee back in 2011.

How does the current crop compare?  I had a Rooney 2XL Heritage with the gel tips I moved on from, I've seen a few posts here and there saying on of Lee's version is similar. I would not like that.

He's not returning my emails unfortunately.   [img]http://[Image: 569E9CEB-74AC-4D65-8A05-71636E86EE59_zpsdnsw7ley.jpg][/img]

I've not kept any new brushes from the collaboration. I bought one directly from Brad. I still own three with pre collab knots. Two pre collab full brushes and a 3XL Finest knot in a custom L&L Grooming Nebula handle.

I admit to having used the "gel" term in some of our descriptions, but have found the term imprecise.  That's because what one person calls "gel" another simply says is "soft but not gel."

So to try to answer your question:  Lee tells me the current batches of Finest and Super are the nicest he's seen in years.  My admittedly subjective impressions are that the current Finests have soft tips with solid, yet not oppressive, backbone and good lather release.  IMO, they provide a unique lathering experience.  The 3-band Supers have similarly soft tips with (understandably) more flexible backbone. But how these hairs compare to brushes made seven years ago is tough to say because badger hair characteristics change with use over time.  I can say that of the brushes we've sold containing these hairs, we've only had two complaints:  both of which I believe we addressed to the customers' satisfaction.

We know that feelings about brushes--especially premium brushes--are highly subjective.  We get that.  For that reason, we our very best to ensure not just satisfaction, but delight in every brush that leaves our workshop.

Because Lee has a lot on his plate unrelated to Morris & Forndran, we have been handling M&F brush correspondence in his stead.  So if anyone has specific questions, certainly send me an email at brad@turningarts.com (or call me at +(570) 807-8100) and Nancy or I will be happy to be of service.
