How do you end up with some of the rarest straight razors I have ever seen on the net ? And NOS condition on top of that. Thanks for sharing. Awesome !

I took me years of looking and building up a list of who you know where to look and a certain amount of luck as well.

Jamie, i will second that. I started late in the game but am very slowly adding pristine NOS straights to my very small collection, far from what you have but i am very pleased with what I have acquired.

The Iwasaki's are without a doubt two of my best razors...the "baby" Kamisori which measures just under 6" in overall length and has a 5/8 blade, is one of the few razors where I can get a BBS shave after only one pass...

Beautiful razors! I love that Tokiwa Iwasaki you have there on the left, I believe those were made by Tanifuji Fukutaro.

I'm not 100% certain although I believe Tanifuji taught Iwasaki how to make straights....sure there are others on TSN that are much more knowledgable (including yourself) about this subject....without a doubt, it is an amazing razor....I was once asked...if the house was burning down which razor(s) would you take....this is definitely one of them.

You're not wrong, Shigeyoshi and Tosuke (his father) Iwasaki were very good at making the blades but when they finally decided to make the Western style razors, the knowledge of detailing from scalemaking to engraving and polishing were skills Tanifuji possessed and taught them, a majority of the western ones were actually produced and finished in the Tanifuji workshop.

Contemporary razor not made by Iwasaki san, but by his apprentice who is now getting ready to retire so I am told. It is the finest balanced and shaving Kamisori that I have.

I have a special made commemorative one, it is customized for someone. I found it NOS a number of years ago, it is a superb shaver.
I added pics of two I no longer have but owned NOS, one Tamahagane and one Swedish steel made by Tanifuji. Finally one of my two Tamahagane, (the other one is sitting in a box until I find time to scale it) I polished it and etched it to get the hamon to show. Iwasaki ate on the top of the food chain as far as straight razors are concerned IMO.

Magnificent razors, Stefan. It just doesn't get any better than that. Instead of a razor case, I'd almost want to make a little shrine for them.
