When clicking on page # inside a thread, I quite often get "this page does not exist".

ie) TSN Brush page, shows there are 20 pages of thread. i click on the hyperlink to 20 and it does not exisit.

there are actually only 19 pages of posts right now (at my time of posting).

this happens quite often.

go to page 19 manually by clicking the numbers to get there and you will see the last post posted.

Not sure why it happens, but it does. That's just the way that I deal with it.

yes, but having to scroll thru page by page (3-4 pages jumps at a time) to get to page 20, is not the best way of donig it.

it's a glitch, and i'm confident the tech team will be able to rectify.

i thought it had been reported already, but didn't see a thread.

the issue occurs when someone replies to the thread then deletes it, if that reply would of pushed the thread to an additional page. until the task runs in the back-end to update how many pages a thread has, or if enough people reply to push it to a new page, it'll be like that.

it doesn't happen enough to have the task constantly run. plus, if we did, it would probably cause long load times.

thanks for the explanation andrew.

is there a setting to have it display them most current page of replies when you click on the thread title?

as it is right now, when you click on a 20pg thread, it displays pg 1.

just wondering?

no, because like I said, it had the page you're trying to reach, but because someone deleted a post, and the forum task to update that didn't run yet (I manually ran it, btw), it'll keep doing that until the tasks runs or someone makes a post to make it go to the correct number of pages.

it should be fine now.

I got this same message on the "the person below me" thread this morning.

Because that thread is getting so long..... could that thread be locked and a new thread started?

That will make it a lot easier when this happens. Maybe keeping it to 10-20 pages before the old is locked and a new started?

Just a thought to keep it a little less frustrating when it happens on longer threads.

I'm hoping a fix can be found, it's the only forum i've ever been on that i've seen it happen. it even happens if i post something, get out and then try to click on that page #, it says "doesnt' exist"...so the delete post explanation, must be if ANY post is deleted, not the most recent post (which is what I thought it meant)

frustrating to say the least.

if there was an option to take us to the most current post when you clicked on a thread title, it might help for the time being, but it doesn't appear to be a user controled option...it takes you to post #1 when you click a title.

Try clicking the little green arrow instead of the thread title!

Well, would you look at that! Much appreciated, never knew about that little arrow.

thanks. that'll make for a few less headaches until and if they can work this glitch out.

it's on the left side of the thread title.

I'll try that the next time I get one of those error messages.

But for fluffy threads could a new thread still be started after 10-20 pages and the old one locked just to make it a tad easier. Anyone could start the new thread and PM a mod to ask them to lock the old so it doesn't get bumped by a newbie.

if a post is made before the task runs to update the thread, it'll think it has, for example, 15 posts instead of 14, which may or may not make it act as if it has 2 pages rather than 1. other than having the task run constantly, there really is no 'fix', so to speak.

So Andrew would it be okay to end the longer threads like the fluffy threads and start a new one and have a mod lock the old?

not really because it'll likely continue to do it as someone deletes their post from the thread before the task runs to update them.

The only thing is in that time period when it does happens you won't have to go through 40 pages and counting to a higher number. You would just have to go through 10 or 20 pages instead saving a ton of time.

i do not like the idea of ending lengthy threads.

it would make it much hard to search out stuff inside a thread, if you have to look in 3 or 4 threads.

i've seen threads on other sites as long as 200 pages and 1 quick search and it works. if i had to search in 20 different threads with 20 pages in each, i'd go crazy.

I'll see if I can make the task run more frequently.
