I just wanted to thank a very special seller here on the forum for giving me an opportunity to buy this razor.

In addition, I would like to add that there is certainly no razor that even comes close to the machining and detail associated with this razor.

Lastly, some photos! Smile

So....this was my first shave with this razor. Not sure if it was user error but my first go at it wasn't even close to what my RX offers. I'd go as far to say that my one blade offers a closer shave.

I'm going to keep at it and hope it was partiallly user error. My other option is that I am using feathers. I need sharper blades! Your recommendations are greatly appreciated.

It certainly is a machining masterpiece. However, my first go at it wasn't as expected.

Soap-black fern from LA shaving co, feather blade, Simpson captain 2 Manchurian brush, alum stick after, and topped it off with captains choice AS.

May I ask, why you use 'purdy' instead of 'pretty' ?

Is it because it sounds better or just for fun ?

FYI I'm not native American, so I just would like to know ?

I hope you find how to get an effortless BBS from your BBS-1 Smile

I was lucky to acquire two BBS-1 earlier this year, but had to let them go for that I could not consistently get a satisfactory shave from either of them. I tried at least five brands of blades including Feather, GCB, Astra, Treet, Voskhod. There were some others, but I do not recall exactly which. BTW, the Feathers were the sharpest of the bunch.  I loved the quality of the razors, but after a couple of months I exchanged them for Wolfmans, which are still with me.

this is perhaps one of the best examples I could ever give of YMMV.

Claus, it's just American slang. For many of us Yankees (those largely in the northern part of the country), the word sounds like "purdy" from those who are from the south. A gross generalization, but I'm sure that's all it is. From the point of view of a former Texan.

Keep at it.  The BBS-1 requires a shallower angle than most other razors and the magic angle is also narrow.  Once you get it though there's nothing else like it.  I like to use Wizamet Iridium Super Extra Stainless blades.

Cheers,
Eric

I'd say possible user error.  I don't mean that as an insult but I would lean towards an angle adjustment.  Ironically enough for me the feather blades in my BBS are the best performing blades with that razor.  Polsilver is my go to in the Wolfman WR-1 but in the BBS it just does not work for me.  Try some different blades and adjust your angle a bit perhaps.. Hope you like the Black Fern as well, I absolutely love the scent.  Best of luck.  Congrats on the acquisition too..

The angle of attack with BBS-1 is narrow, miss it and it's a lousy shave, hit it and it's a smooth as silk shave. I'd say try messing with the angle a bit. Smile
