It seems like some shaving creams or soaps leave a lot more residual soap scum than others. While I always get an excellent shave from Tabula Rasa and Baum.be, I have found that these two creams leave a lot more soap scum in the sink than anything else that I use. Perhaps this is why they seem to offer so much protection.

Has anybody else noticed this or am I off my rocker? What other soaps or creams have this tendency?

Palmolive sticks and cream.

I have really hard water so everything almost contributes to the never ending battle.

I have fairly hard water as well and that is definitely a contributing factor.

I just figure it's an extra layer of protection for my skin. ?

What I notice, and bugs me most, is a dry brush held up in line of the light will let out dust like powder when I flick or brush a hand across it after being used with some soaps.

Like Prorasso...

I've taken to using a brush soap once in a while.

I clean my sink and shower stall pretty often out of necessity and preference anyway. Every weekend or every other weekend though I'll take some time to clean the brushes and razors I've been using the most.

I hate water spots so I tend to wipe the counter and faucet regularly too between cleanings.

I keep saying we'll have a water softener installed, but haven't done it yet. I'm sure I'd like the results, but I keep finding other projects to do instead.

I find creams to be bigger offenders than soaps. Also, using hot water leaves much more soap scum than a cold water shave.

This is true about hot water I've noticed as well.

I try to do a cold water final rinse on my brush if I have time in the morning. Helps the suds rinse out better.

Yes, I have noticed this too and so has the boss. On a tip from a friend I bought some Gel-Gloss bathroom and kitchen cleaner and polish. After several applications of this product to the bathroom sink the problem has been greatly diminished, not eliminated, to much more manageable situation. Tried it on the stainless steel kitchen sink also with similar success.

I have very soft water, so i don't really notice this problem much.  Also, pretty much any soap gives me a great lather.

Yes, I'm spoiled.

I agree.  Proraso green soap leaves a heavy white film on my razors, sink and brushes.  Honestly for me I am not sure the performance justifies the aggravation.

Soap scum is why I take apart my razor to clean it as well as the blade.

I got rid of all my 4 Proraso shave creams, my 3 Proraso shaving soaps and my 3 Proraso pre-shave creams because of this issue.

Even though they are classics, the performance did not justify the hazzle - I simply have too many greater products, that does not leave this white film and performs better.

Agreed.

In conclusion I sold all my 3 Proraso Pre-shave and my 7 Proraso shaving-creams/soaps, but kept the 3 Proraso AS Balms and the 2 Proraso AS Splashes, for obvious reasons.
Proraso is a classic, as mentioned, but it does not perform up to what my best products do, the scents are kind of cheap (The Proraso Red is still nice though), so they had to leave.

Esbjerg is in another ball park.
Esbjerg is among the best shaving creams in existence. I own all 5 post of Esbjerg cream, and it performs equal to my Xpec, Baume.Be and Acqua di Parma. So they had to stay for that reason, and the scents are quite good too.
