Hello! I am looking to buy a new shave soap for my husband as a gift to go with a new brush (see post in brush forum). He uses the proraso shave soap (green is his most favorite). He loves the minty and citrus-y freshness of the proraso. He likes a lot of lather but prefers to swirl in the soap container itself not in a bowl. He does complain it makes his skin dry/tight though. Anyone have any suggestions on similar soap and scent and brand he might like?
Thank you.

Cold River Soapworks Limenthol. Similar menthol hit as Proraso, but with excellent skin conditioning properties.

Santa Maria Novella. Though it is a shaving cream, it can still be loaded directly from the container

I would get Le Savon des Volcans Shave Soap Stick.
This has a mint scent (better than eucalyptus, in my opinion, its more smooth and cool, and less astringent, mostly).
And has donkey milk which most people love for the post-shave feel (x mint).  It is very good stuff, and it's one of the few products that I am pretty sure I haven't seen even one dissenting/negative review.

Since it comes in a stick, it should be mashed or grated into a container.  That's another thread you can create or search Smile

+10 on the SdV Menthe Stick.

The mint smell of the Volcans stick is very pleasant and a much more natural smell than Proraso Green.  It does require grating into a tub/container.  It's a very good soap, top tier in my book.  And it will leave the skin feeling great instead of dry and tight.  $17 is a good deal.

+100 on the Santa Maria Novella.  This is the cream/soap that Proraso Green wants to be when it grows up.  It has Eucalyptus oil and its scented with tobacco flower -- the combination is intoxicating, at least for me.  It's density, slickness and post-shave feel are second to none.  It may be, in my humble opinion, the best shaving soap/cream there is. Unfortunately it's obscenely expensive in the US.  But if you want to give him a special gift and he likes Proraso Green, you can't go wrong with Santa Maria Novella.  The container is large and could last him several months of great shaves.

Alex

I second the Santa Maria Novella.  Probably the best "menthol" soap that I have ever used.  Not knowing where you live, do a Google search for Santa Maria Novella Shaving Soap.  This will take you to their website and depending on where you are located, they may have a store in your area.  If not, you can order it online.

I would be thrilled if someone bought me a jar for Christmas.

I third the Santa Maria Novella. If all men smelled like it, the world would be a much more pleasant place. It is also one of the top of the top tier soaps/creams on the planet.

This one is very nice. Not quite as cooling as Proraso Green but still cooling enough and it smells nice.

Yes, the v3 has been out over a year and if any would have the new version first, it would be the manufacturer's stores and website.
