Jut received an email from Queen Charlotte Soaps stating they are closing their doors. Hate to see it happen. They were one of the first artisans soap makers I tried when I first got into wet shaving.

That is a shame. Matthew and I both got started in 2009 and he used to make some limited edition soaps for my shop. He and his mother were great to work with.

Well, that's what happens when a market gets over saturated.  They made some good products.

Sad to see another artisan soap maker go.  In addition to soaps, they were one of a few artisans who made shaving creams.

I too was sad to receive this email.  As Johnny mentioned, the market is flooded with artisan products, and I don't see too much mention of QCS these days.  It was one of the first and in my opinion remains the best (although I certainly haven't tried everything out there).  From what I recall, when QCS started most of the artisan soaps out there were melt-and-pour glycerin soaps, and this was one of the original tallow soaps made from scratch.  I'll definitely be stocking up.

I remember back in 2008 when I joined the wet shaving forums and did read a lot about their soaps.

But I do agree with Johnny , traditional wet shaving is a very saturated market these days.

Is it clear whether or not the competitive market made them call it quits?  It's true they did not get much air time, but I don't know why.  For example, Mike's, Stirling and Mystic Water do not seem to be guilty of over self-promotion and are not in danger of closing [as far as I know].

I just read their Facebook page and they say that their regular day-jobs are taking up more and more time.  That makes more sense to me since their products were quite good.

Just put in my order, sad to see my favorite creams go and I loved their shampoo bar and body soap.

They are the only artisan makers who still use REAL MYSORE SANDALWOOD in their "Mysore Sandalwood" cream. It's their most expensive product, but well worth it if you like sandalwood.

I was going to pick up a few items, but looks like they have closed the checkout process while they regroup and evaluate their inventory.

Yes, I contacted Matt today to offer my support after reading of the closing and he informed me the store may open in a couple of days for additional orders but this has been fully suspended at this time.

QCS was my first artisian shave soap/cream and I really enjoy the other products they offer. More than that, Matt and his mom seem like wonderful people and the customer service they offer is unparalleled. Best wishes to both of them moving forward.

Of what they sell. What would be the best scent and product to go after? Soap, cream, shampoo bar?

I'm sad to see QCS go.  I hope that in the future they are able to do limited runs, or maybe seasonal runs.  His sandalwood cream is fantastic.

I placed my order on the 9th.  I received and email today stating this:

Hello,

Thank you for your recent order from us. Because of the heavy volume of orders that we received, we will need three to four weeks to fill your order. We understand if this is too long of a wait and would be more than happy to issue you a refund immediately. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. If you would like a refund, please let us know; otherwise, we will ship your order once it is ready. Have a great Sunday!

Best regards,

Matthew

Apparently the news of their closing resulted in a flood of orders.
