This is great news. I exchanged several emails with Aldo when he was more active on social media; as stated he is a perfect gentleman and his brushes are stunning.  Which reminds me:  I went on the list in late 2015.  Since then, My email address has changed, and I have no access to the old address (when Aldo tries to get a hold of me).  If one of you who has contact with him would pass on my new email address, I would greatly appreciate it.

Sweet! I hope this means that other brushes from the varlet line will be available in Ebony.

I asked Aldo because I had seen a prototype in one of his shave of the day posts awhile back. Hopefully your right because I'd love a Mega or Ranger in ebony

David,  please let us know if you get a response .

I received a very nice email from Aldo within two days.  He's still creating brushes; I'm patiently waiting for mine.

Sorry my response is a little late; I've been in California for the last two weeks celebrating the arrival of granddaughter number four (to even the score with four boys).  After raising four wonderful children, there is absolutely nothing in world to compare to watching them with their own.

I signed up for a Ranger on September 9, 2015.  On November 23, 2015, Aldo advised me that I was #49 on the list.  I'm not clear if that meant #49 for all brushes or #49 for a Ranger.  After such a long delay, I stopped thinking about the brush and accepted the possibility that I would never get it.    It's been 2 years and 8 months, but I received an email from Aldo today that this Ranger is ready for me.  I give the man credit for keeping his word and continuing to deliver these brushes.

So about 2 1/2 years after I signed up for the (in-)famous reserve list, kind of unexpected, and no longer thinking about it, this Varlet Beehive knocked on my door. I ordered at the time because I generally liked the beehive themed handles. I had several over the course of the years: a Rooney Beehive, a Simpson Manchurian Beehive, a Viel Long version and even a Thäter Boar version for a while. All of these are gone and I find myself more involved with knot sizes above 26mm and handles around 60mm tall lately.

And here there is now this Varlet Beehive: 24/50mm 2 band knot in a 50mm handle. My first reaction was: well, it is small.

The handle is truly though a piece of art with its various deep grooves. This must be a nightmare to produce in large numbers without precision machines doing it. So I can guess why it has been difficult for Aldo to get them out in larger numbers.

The knot is a good 2 Band knot: soft tipped, medium density with just the right loft. At first, during a palm lather, I thought the knot lacks backbone but when using it on the face it showed surprising presence. I dismissed my last M&F Beehive because of lack of density. The Varlet one stands this test. While a small package this brush feels good when used.

Aesthetically, this is certainly the most pleasing beehive I owned and I recognize Aldo for such a beautiful handle -- and for the fact, even after more than 2 years, he came through with it!
