I'd like to complete a list of the characteristics of soaps/creams.
I started this list with some of your help in another thread.

- Scent
- Character of Ingredients List (long/short, all natural)
- Vegan/Vegetarian/Tallow
- Firmness/Texture
- Loading time (including Amount Used)
- Lathering time
- Easy/Intuitive (Not finicky) Lathering (including sensitivity to hard water)
- Proto-lather consistency
- Thirstiness
- Sweet-spot range for water additions
- Lather Stability (re: breakdown or drying out)
- Lathering method preference (bowl vs palm vs face)
- Slickness
- Residual Slickness and "Buffability"
- Closeness of shave (says the hand and the mirror, and the ears)
- Protection during shave (re: nicks/cuts)
- Comfort during shave (meaning the blade stroke isn't "ouch")
- Lather face feel (sting? menthol? calming? Etc.)
- Post-shave feel (re: irritation sensation, dryness, tightness vs. calm, healthy, hydrated)
- Post-shave skin complexion (redness, visible irritation/bumps)
- Non-usage related lather qualities: appearance (shiny, creamy, tiny bubbles, no bubbles), volume, creaminess, density, firmness, etc.

What are we missing?
I will alter this OP as we add things, so the whole and current list is visible in one convenient spot.

How the soap lathers regarding what type of lather is created while loading , some soaps appear glue like others you are fighting off tiny bubbles for a period of time. Super technical but something that could be observed.

Very good!
May I call that "proto-lather consistency"?

Thirstiness (I.e., how much water is required for proper consistency)?

Maybe "Sweet spot" size... How tolerant it is to too much or too little water... I dunno... Just throwing stuff out there...

Matt, I like how you analyze things into details.

A bit OCD, just like I am  Biggrin

Lather stability.
I have recently decided to try straight razor shaving again and this is perhaps one of the most important things to me at the moment because it takes me a while to get the job done and if the lather is drying out I have to continually reapply.

Best for bowl or face lathering.

Of course, YMMV.  But I've found some that perform better when lathered in one way vs the other.

How hard hard the soap is (harp puck, croap or on the edge to a cream ? )

And some soaps comes in a tub is it a decent size or small this effect the ease of loding.

Maybe smal or long ingredients list,i like soaps with a short ingredient list (lots of chemicals is no no. Natural ingredients is god for the skin)

How about the amount used per shave or cost per shave?

Cheers, Steve

Nice! I included your first and third, but the middle one isn't really inherent in the soap/cream but the container so I left that off bc it can be transferred 99% of the time if it really bothers us so much. (Hope you understand)
Thank you!

Sure Steve, I thought that went well attached to "Loading Time"... Hope that works. Thank you!
