I’ve read a lot of good things about Nicoletti - I’ll be ordering some just after Christmas.

Kicking horse wasn’t what I was looking for. Not bad, but I had to extract a ristretto in order to avoid bitterness - and even then just so. Before I try Nicoletti - I’m going to give one of the Italian mainstays a go:

I’ve finished up a batch of blue bottle hays valley, which remains a good standard for me to measure a home-espresso against. Very forgiving, creamy, and smooth.

I haven’t tried Lavazza yet. I’ll be interested to hear what you think. I can recommend Kimbo Superior. I was pleasantly surprised.

I’m back on Malabar Gold after a stint with Vivace Dolce.

Oh and BB Hayes Valley is a great one!

I buy locally frsh roasted beans direct from the many roasters near me.

For espresso I use a Faema Faemina lever machine. Can’t post pictures from IPad unfortunately.

Robert, your beautiful Faemina(s) need to be seen! From your iPad, hold the “circle arrow” in your browser and it will bring up the option to go to Desktop Site and you will have full functionality.

BTW, still digging my Caravel. You did awesome work on that one, thank you!

Kobrick coffee Tiger Stripe espresso blend.  They use a more traditional Italian blend of beans.  And true to the Italian way, it's proprietary/secret.  The idea being to maintain a consistent flavor profile.  This is the big 5# bags we get for our Café.  But you can get a more reasonable 1# from their website.

Ron, thanks for sharing your in-house blend.  I'm always interested to see what expresso machines, grinders and beans restaurants use.

These are good times for espresso enthusiasts, with numerous local small batch roasters producing excellent beans.  However, I also enjoy some of the big name Italian brands, such as Lavazza and Maromas.  I just received this 1 pound bag of Maromas Orphea beans.

You guys are serious coffee connoisseurs. I drink Folgers, Maxwell House and Chock Full O’Nuts and think I’m doing ok.

Is coffee my next rabbit hole? Doubt

I just received this bag of Lavazza beans.  Lavazza is one of the big names in Italian coffee.  For being a mass produced coffee, Lavazza makes a nice espresso.   I'll alternate this with small batch beans from  various USA roasters.

Agreed.  Another wonderful big time Italian brand is illy.  Every once in a while I'll pick up a can of theirs.    I'm about due.  It's been a while.

Ron, I agree with you about illy.   I'm also due to pick up a can of illy Classico.
