Just curious if anyone went with the smooth top cap instead of the scalloped cap when ordering the open comb or scalloped base plate.

I ordered the smooth cap with the scalloped base plate. It is sensational - best razor in my den. I went smooth cap because I use oblique strokes and I didn't want the scallops on the top cap scraping away too much residual lather.

I have the open comb with the smooth cap too. Purely for aesthetic reason really, the scalloped cap just didn't do it for me. Awesome looking razor and great performer. I probably wouldn't get the handle again though.

I went scalloped cap with scalloped and OC baseplate for the simple reason that it looks amazing!  I don't think the cap is going to change the shaving experience, but for $10 more, I thought it was a luxurious option on an already gorgeous razor.

I have both and agree the scalloped is just that extra step.  got it oc at .95 and polished sb at .68  the .68 is one of the mildest shavers I own.  it rates with the feather asd2 for inablility to cause bleeding.

I have both and I feel its purely aesthetic preference. Both perform beautifully.
