Hi guys!

I am planning to buy a new Simpson brush very soon. It will be a Duke 3 in Tortoiseshell.

I don't know if i want Manchurian hair or Silvertip 2 band. I had a 2016 CH2 in Manchurian and i really lile the hair, but never had a Simpson 2 band knot.

What do you recommend? Manchurian or actual 2 band?

Thanks.

For me, I like soft tips, no scritch and not too much back bone. I find I prefer Simpson Manchurian to deliver these three features better than their 2 bands.

Hi Jose,

You are in luck, a Duke is a great handle and you have had some experience with Simpson Manchurian hair.
I have 2 Silvertip Chubbies and they are similar in feel to the Ebonite Paladin that you have recently acquired.
Which one do you prefer?

Just note that there have been some batch variations with the Silvertip brushes Simpson has produced with most people liking the 2011-2012 brushes the best.
The Manchurians of late have been fairly consistent in their batches.

José, the Simpson Manchurian over the past year has been exceptional, with soft and scritch-free tips. You can't go far wrong, IMO.
The 2-Band SiLVERTiP brushes I have used over the past 3-4 years have been lacking in density compared to the 2011-2012. Backbone has been a little lacking for my liking.

Thanks you guys. Seems that Manchurian is a very good option. I liked it a lot in the CH2. But i have curiosity about testing the 2band.

Anyone have a recent 2 band knot from Simpson?

That's odd, in my experience Simpson's Silvertip 2-Band should deliver softer tips, less scritch and also less backbone than their Manchurian hair.

For me the experience is just the opposite. Love my Kents and Vie Long silvertips

I stand corrected. I just checked and most if not all my Manchurian's are also 2 bands. Mea Culpa

In my defense it should be noted that on my last birthday I crossed the border from senior citizen

The Manchurians are indeed always two band knots, but the Silvertip 2-bands are bulb shaped knots, with softer tips and less backbone.

Just learned something. I  looked my only 2 band that is not a Manchurian is one of my favorite brushes

I have the Duke 3 in  Manchurian and 2-band, and they're both excellent.  Which you would prefer depends on the qualities you look for in a brush.  If you prefer backbone and scrub, go Manchurian.  If you prefer softness, go with the 2-band.  Your preferences in knot shape are also a consideration, with Manchurians being fans and 2-bands being bulbs.

Your 2 band is new or old batch?

Both Manchurians and Silvertip are always 2-bands, no matter if you can see 3 or 2 bands, they are considered 2-band brushes.

All 2 band brushes have 3 bands, just like 3-band brushes have.
2-bands just have a wider darker middle part, which sometimes is not wide enough, so you can see part of the third band sticking up.

Simpson Manchurian hair is a more rough thick hair type than Simpson Silvertip 2-band, thus Manchurians only come in fan-hybrid shaped knots, while the Simpson 2-band Silvertip come in a more bulb like shaped knot. A bulb knot in a Manchurian hair type would be too pointy for most Gents out there, which is why Simpsons make the Manchurian in fan-hybrid shape.

Manchurian from Simpson is a more rough, dense, thick and backbone full knot than Simpson 2-band Silvetip is.

I have never heard anyone implying Simpson Manchurian hair to be softer, less scritchy and less backbone based than a Simpson 2-band Silvertip knot.
You are the very first person I have heard with this opinion.

YMMV

I do, I bought one direct from Mark last month. It was fairly dense and had more backbone than other silvertip brushes that I've tried. Granted, this was my first 2 band Silvertip. I've attached a picture below

How you describe the hair? Softness?

Thanks you
