Feather without a doubt and paired with good soap it's a winner in any razor.
Besides that maybe Souplex and Timor. But feather always!!!

I JUST tried a Kai again. On two separate (and different style) shaves, using both my BBS-1 and Timeless .68 razors in a 'half face comparison' (Kai on one side, Feather on the other),
I noticed a discernible difference, with the Feather (Palm stropped on first use) being smoother, with less tugging than the Kai, although the shave results were similar.
I have found this to be the case in 3-4 shaves with a Kai in the last 2 years, in different razors. I toss the blade after 2 shaves, so 'longevity' is irrelevant to me.
Feather just works better, for ME, and NO other blade I have tried works as well for me, so ...

1. Feather
2. Feather
3. Feather

Carbon steel blades like Treet are super sharp on the first shave. Most modern blades aren't carbon steel.

Out of what I've tried, here's my three for modern blades;

Kai
Feather
Bolzanos

I think I'm the only one who thinks Bolzanos are any good though. Must have gotten the only good ones out of the batch I guess. Hahaha.

I don't if Kai area really sharper than Feathers. They feel smoother to me so I hold them in higher regard.

If I was asked this question 10 years ago I'd have said Gillette Swedes and Feathers are equal in sharpness but Swedes are smoother. At that time AFAIK, nothing came close to those two. Now I would say the same about the Feather and the Kai, with the Kai being the smoother. The big difference now is that there are a half dozen or more blades that are about equal to the Feather.

Kai
Feather
Gillette 7 O'clock Yellow, Silver Blue, Nacet, Polisilver, Voshkod, &tc

After the first shave or two i experience (Russian) Permasharp are sharper than Feather. BIC Chrome Platinum may be as well.

I think most people will agree that feather blades are the sharpest of sharp.

With a fresh blade its buttery smooth, it feels like there is almost nothing there.  I have yet to find anything even close.

I have heard people say that Kia is pretty close but in my experience I don't think so.

There is a running joke about how the only blade almost as sharp as a feather is a used feather.

I agree entirely with this. The only blades I ever have to be careful with are Feathers. They're also the blades that I used to accidentally slice my pinky finger open with and remove half of my fingerprint for good... Would have loved to see an Astra blade attempt THAT so cleanly.

Supporting my comments above regarding Feather's fleeting sharpness are the measurements done here. Out of 14 blades tested Feather after one (beard and head) shave are no more than average in sharpness, with Permasharp and Gillette Black the most sharp after one shave. After two shaves Feather plummets to 10/14.

Personna blades (both blue and red) are not particularly sharp at first but improve dramatically after the first shave, and pass the Black and Permasharp after two. Likewise GSB doesn't hit maximum sharpness until after the second shave.
