It's that time  Biggrin

Your top 5 artisan list for 2017.

Let's hear it.

Mine:

1. Barrister & Mann
2. Cold River Soap Works
3. Tabula Rasa
4. Le Pére Lucien
5. Caties Bubbles

H.M.: Mike's Natural, Nuavia, Wickham 1912 & Haslinger

Awaiting to try Eufros/Jabonman, L&L Grooming & Tallow & Steel soaps for the first time.....

This list is based on several factors including performance, formula ingredients, variety of scents (which leaves out Nuavia, but they did make my now updated H.M. list), availability, presentation and scent imagination.

1. Valobra

The rest s^@k, IMO.

None of these "great" "artisans" even touch the performance of GFT and AOS creams which is what we started from. I'd rather go back.

Claus, really, Caties Bubbles beats out Nuavia?

Expect Tallow & Steel will move up for you once you try it - I have Rainforest, and love it!  Reminds me of Mike's with a more complex scent profile.  Jabonman Rosa Bourbon is special imho, you will regret waiting this long to try it....

On another thread, I read a Claus' comment that Wickham is not that high in his preferences. He had some bad shaves... What did change since then?

At this moment, I don't have a Top 5.

I believe that an anti-Top 5 list would be more interesting...

I agree with Matt (kinda).  If I am not using a Valobra product, I am using either Mike's or CRSW. (Or a cream, which is a topic for another thread.)

While I don't feel as strongly as "they suck Biggrin ", my experience is that the newer artisans make a fine product, but not superior enough to displace anything in my "old school" line-up.

In the spirit of Claus' thread, I'll list these 5

Valobra
Mike's Natural
CRSW
SMN V3
Floris #89 cream

since Claus didn't mention I Coloniali, I am assuming he means products that are currently in production.

Thanks Ron.
I'd use Mike's if he removed the lanolin since I can't use that. Mikes did offer a nice comfortable shave. And going from my good experience with OLIVA, I have no doubt the tallow CRSW is also very good.

But I can't say that about any one other "artisan". They all feel like I'm scraping the skin off my face. That feeling has never happened once with the better "mainstream" soap/creams.

Personally not in favor of an anti top 5, a bit negative IMHO.

1 Mike's Natural (emphatically)
2 B&M
3 MLS
4 Stirling
5 SV

Waiting on delivery of the new formulation of CRSW, which could significantly disrupt this hierarchy. I'm keeping an open mind!

If we can do that in a polite manner and respect all the opinions, there would be no problem. A recent thread suggests otherwise, so maybe it's not a good idea. Feedback, either is good or bad, is always helpful and important.

TSN is a forum for positive discussion. Opinions are welcome however starting threads inviting complaints and negativity is strongly discouraged. These type of threads seem to bring out the worst in people and frankly I am a Member/ Administrator here in the interest of a positive vibe.

Let's not derail this thread further. Period.

Sorry, forgot Nuavia. Now added. Yes, I prefer Caties Bubbles over Nuavia, just slightly and mostly because a great artisan must also have a great variety in soap scents. I only own 3 Nuavia. I own 14-15 Caties.
