Terrible winter weather at the moment in Toronto. Dries my skin out. Stopped in at the drug store on the way home from work and bought some moisturizer. First time in my life. Hey, I figure it's worth a try.

Do you use moisturizer? After shaving, or at night? The one I purchased (Vichy) says it can be used as an after shave. Will try it out in the morning.

If you use it, which brand do you recommend?

I primarily use CRSW Replenish or a Thayers tonic followed by a balm or lotion. Shea butter is a great healer for the colder months. I moisturize after shaving at night and after showering in the morning.

I would definitely give the shea butter a try. I'm using Saponificio Varesino Karite Shea Butter currently.

I have oily skin and do not need a moisturizer.  I also live in tropical weather, so I don't have to deal with cold weather drying my skin out.

I ALWAYS use a moisturiser after my shave. In fact I use two. A light one and an anti-wrinkle one.
During summer I just apply a very tiny thin layer. Yet still use 2. Just add a tiny thin layer.

During the winter months I do use a moisturizer/aftershave balm. I have a few from Tremonia, SMN and Castle Forbes. Sometimes in summers too, I use light gel based ones like Dermalogica, St.James etc.

However good the soap might be, there is always a need for me to moisturize forehead n face again after shaving.

I *need* it in the morning and at night.
I'm not partial to any particular brand.
In the evening I like argan oil.

SC Integrity balm and Stirling unscented balm are my favorites. I recently picked up Cerave PM Moisturizer and I'm actually loving that as well. It's supposed to be very good for the skin and helps if you're prone to acne.

I just use a balm after the splash either scented the same as the splash or a neutral scented one.

I use argan oil as moisturizer every day, and several times a day.
After shaving I use a splash (some times), followed by a balm (always) and finish of with argan oil.
I also use shea butter, but mainly for my body, as its a little too thick for my face.
In the winter time I might use a thin layer of shea on the face though..

Unrefined shea butter might just be the best moisturizer you can try. You may want to peruse this thread:  http://shavenook.com/showthread.php?tid=3949

Everytime I shave. My aftershave contains a built in moisturizer that can't be felt except for the smooth resulting skin. That's one of the reasons why I decided to make my own product.

I see a tub of it with my wife's stuff.  I'll have to give it a try. Certainly has a nice light scent.

Whew.  That is a really long thread, but very interesting and useful.

Is there a Canadian supplier you recommend, or should I order from http://www.theorganicsheabutter.com/sheastore.htm which is mentioned in the thread?

A friend of mine has some Institut Karite shea butter, but it is pure white, and seems to have a slight perfume scent.  I guess I can safely conclude that it isn't the best kind.

I have started using mango butter as a nightly routine.  I feel like my face doesn't get as dry.

I do use a moisturizer after my aftershave splash.  I tend to use grooming lounge's post shave unscented balm or stirling unscented balm.  During the winters, my face gets really dry so I tend to put on 2-3 thin layers to make sure i dont dry out.
