It's a triple milled hard puck with excellent performance.
Definitely worth a try.

Fantastic shaving soap.

Not so fantastic presentation (small cheap plastic container and labels falling off unless you superglue them yourself)

I have the SdV Menthe Stick, and it's one of the best soaps I have.  Agree 100% with Claus and Nathan.  The SdBB/SdV soaps are top notch, especially if you like simple, natural scents.

What is the difference between the regular Savon de Bon Berger and Savon de Volcan?

None.

They are the same company.

I understand that it's the same company. What I means to ask was, if there is a difference in formulation between the two names.
F.ex. Bullgoose sells both a puck labeled Savonerrie du Bon Berger and a stick labeled Savon des Volcan (also others sell SdV in puck form).
The only reason I'm asking is because, I live in Greenland, and shipping tends to be quite expensive, and can take a long time. I want to try the SdV, I've read rave reviews about, and just want to make sure I get the right one.

I have it and love it.  A fine shave soap.  I use the puck like a "shave stick".  Rub on the soap and then face lather.  Great, slick lather.

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure about this, you can ask Phil for more info because he carries the soap.  My understanding is that the Savon de Volcan stick contains 10% donkey milk, and the "original" SdBB sticks did not.  The newer SdBB tubs are formulated with donkey milk as well.  As for the other ingredients, I think they are more or less the same.  Hopefully someone who has both SdV and SdBB can comment.

Fwiw the SdV menthe stick is very hard -- harder than any triple milled soap I've come across -- so I don't think it would be good for rubbing directly on the face, although I haven't tried it.  Grated into a container it loads very easily.

There are the new 3 pots which contain more Donkey milk and have a larger Donkey on the label than the 3 old pots.
Then you have the sticks.

All perform well. The newer versions with the larger Donkey on the label are better performers imho but all perform great.

Works nicely for me.  I do not let it soak before use.  I dip it in the hot water basin as I do other sticks (La Toja, Lea, etc) and then rub it on my face.  I am getting wonderful lather and the face lathering is a plus - feels great.  I have a brush scuttle to keep the lather warm as I complete the passes.

Thank you. Also to surfshaver.

I wrote SdBB directly, to ask them, but re-labeling do to reformulation, sounds correct.
I'm putting the order in with Bullgoose..

Sorry for the late replies, but it's still working hours up here Smile

Not so fantastic presentation (small cheap plastic container and labels falling off unless you superglue them yourself)

Was going to get the 2 (55gr) refill pucks and put them in a different container.

Before they came in pots, they came 2 x 55g mini-pucks, in a paper packaging.

No answer yet. But relabeling and reformulation (donkey milk now also present in the SdBB labeled soap), sounds correct.
I ordered the Almond & Cedar
