I was recently given an unopened box of Rexall branded blue carbon blades. I'd guess maybe 70's/80's era.  The box was still cellophane sealed and the blades appear to be in mint/factory condition.  I'm 56 years old but have only ever used modern stainless DE blades since leaving carts behind in 2013.  Let me tell you, these things are something else.  Lots of tugging although they seem sharp in a weird sort of way.  As long as you use a determined stroke with slight pressure (to overcome the tug) they actually produce a great shave.  Not something I'm using very often though.

Hands down Treet DE for me, worst than the Shark SS which liked to bite once in awhile.

Worst: Rockwell second shave with blade.  Two or three strokes on first pass and had to replace the blade:

Best: Same Rockwell blade on first shave.  Very impressed.  I advertise as having a 90 day supply of Rockwell blades -- box of 100.

Borzano the worst by far. One and done; I did try a second and third time with the same results. I couldn't believe they were that bad; I even made a thread "Is it me or my blade?"

I actually used and had no problem with the Merkur blade that came with the razor. I've used about six now from the sample pack and all have given acceptable shaves for 3 - 5 days.

White/Green are SP... Brushes are my biggest weakness as well, though I'm pretty content with the 12 I now use, my new  weakness has been a Shave Stick kick Eyepop

May we assume that it was mere inadvertence that caused you to fail to enclose the seven words above in bracketed “irony” and “/irony” bookends?

Nacet, Derby, and, the 'rough' side of Merkur blades are the worst.

Personna - even went back a couple times to "be fair" but just didn't work for me. Gave them to my sister in law to use for some kind of crafting she is in to.

Astra SP - I absolutely love the SS blades (had bought the 100pk and use them almost every day), but there is something that just doesn't click for me with the platinum's

Shark - This one confused me. I would get one great, close shave but my face felt irritated (no redness or nicks though) and the 2nd shave was awful. I gave the rest of the shark blades to a co worker who loves them... YMMV eh?

Hmmm. I have seen a few trends in blades that did not perform well for people, so it begs the question:

How effective is the pre shave routine, and what is each persons favorite way to pre shave?

I ask this because I have learned the hard way using a Feather blade, for example. I have ripped my face to shreds with a reasonably mild slant razor, then, after research and experimentation, I have used Feather blades, corked or stropped on my blue jeans with the desired closeness and lack of irritation.

My pre shave routine consists of using soft water by adding Citric acid to the water I use throughout my shave. Soak my boar brush and scuttle in hot water, as I like a warm lather. After showering, I wash face with a good glycerin soap and partially splash it off. After the lather is developed (a work in progress), I work it in on my face with my brush for a while. I have found that with my soaps, I can great from a comfortable, close shave to a BBS shave with little irritation, as long as I keep the pressure as light as possible.

I have used the following razors effectively:
Feather, Gillette 7 O'clock Yellow packages, Astra SP, Personna Israeli Reds, so far. I believe everyone's experiences, so as a relatively new wet shaver, I do wonder how much the pre shave routine influences the shave.

Thanks folks.
