I tried Cella and just did not like it. To me it smelled like the tallow had gone rancid.

It may have. Cella is prone to going bad. I had some P.160 Tipo Morbido I had in a sample loading tin go bad. One guy I know buys the kilo size brick, cuts it up into chunks then vacuum seals, then throws in the refrigerator to prevent this.

I guess I feel a little better now. Considering all the favorable posts I've seen about Cella I wasn't sure the problem wasn't just me.

FWIW, MdC considers itself an artisan, per its logo.

Just used Cyril R Salter Almond shave cream this morning, and I rather enjoyed it!

Proraso.  In my 4 years of D.E. shaving, I've used the very cheap to the very expensive.  In the end, Proraso is the only one I now use.

Czech & Speake. This is unbelievably good and I have yet to find an artisan soap that even comes close.

I have gotten a new favourite non-artisan* soap: Pereira Shaving Cream With Activated Charcoal (link to my review) Biggrin

The manufacturer calls it a cream, I think it's more of a soap since it's fairly hard.

*) to me, artisan means small scale or hand made

There are so many that have already been mentioned, but if I had to be stuck with just one soap for the rest of my life it would be, Mitchell's Wool Fat.

If it's mass-produced soaps and creams, then here are my favorites so far:

SOAPS

Tabac
Van Der Hagen
Williams

CREAMS

I use Williams almost exclusively and would be fine with that for the rest of my life.

I won't even try to give a comprehensive list, but I would hurry to add that Cyril Salter's shaving cream and newly re-formulated TALLOW shaving soap with the excellent traditional classic fragrance and outstanding performance is second to none!
