After the Semogue 1438, the Antiga Barbearia de Barrio shave brush was my second brush.  The 1438 had really delivered in terms of softness and backbone as well as style.  When I saw a picture of the AB it was one of those "I have to have that brush" moments.  It appeared to be made by Semogue, although didn't carry any Semogue branding.  I have later found some references corroborating this, but can't be 100% sure.  The design of the handle, the colors, and the knot (which appeared to be the same as the 1438) sent me on the hunt.  I tracked it down and ordered it.  The first arrived slightly damaged, but a second one soon followed.  I expected the usual break in period, but for whatever reason, this brush took twice as long.  It was only after about 2 months of regular use that it was broken in.  It was a bit frustrating for sure, but I'm glad I stuck with it.  The knot has a bit more backbone than the 1438, but is still a great combination of softness and backbone.

I use this as my primary travel brush and it's been halfway around the world with me and all over the US.  It is showing some signs of wear and tear, but consistently delivers a great shave.  Later I bought the Semogue Barbear Classico Mistura, in part because the handle has a similar profile.

Does anyone else on TSN have the Antiga Barbearia de Barrio shave brush?  Any thoughts?

Hi,

All brushes of that brand are made by Semogue - and I can tell that with 100% certainty. Smile

Tom, it's nice to see all the pictures of boar brushes.  We tend to focus on badger, and 2-band in particular, and boar does not usually get the attention it merits.
