Some members are suddenly unable to see my attached pictures.

I use an Apple Mac and have done since before the forum was set up, so I've always attached pictures with the same file extension and in the same manner.

Yesterday I was alerted to the fact that some members were suddenly unable to view ANY of my pictures, regardless of whether they were posted yesterday, last week, last month, etc...

The Mac automatically saves the pictures I post in the "png" format, recently Andrew changed some of my pics to the "jpeg" format and that seemed to make the images visible for those that suddenly couldn't see them. I often use the "screen grab" short cut (command + shift + 4) which allows me to quickly crop my images and drop it straight on to the desktop allow for a convenient upload process. I am not extremely tech savvy and I don't use photo bucket etc...

My question is what format should I be using to attach pictures?

Honestly, it is much more convenient for me to continue with the "png" saved images, but I guess there is no point if they aren't visible to the majority of forum members.

Any feedback or advice would be appreciated.

In the interim I think a group buy on Apple computers is the way to go! Anyone work for Apple... ?

PLEASE NOTE: I know group buys aren't sanctioned! It was typed in jest...

I really do not know what to tell you Ben. I am one of those that cannot see your pictures and I too have a MAC. Andrew even emailed me one of your pictures and I could not open it in my email. When I saved it to my desktop, I had to change it to a jpg before I could actually see it.

Next time I get down to my MAC store, I'm going to ask them about it.

Just to let you know, yours are the only pictures I have trouble with, including other png pictures.

Darn computers.

I'm still looking into the problem myself.

for some reason on my phone I cannot see any attachments on this forum, but on my test forum, I can see them just fine so I think it's definitely a server issue.

Ok, I took a step out of my comfort zone and found a way to easily convert Mac native PNG files and other image types (including PICT, TIFF, BMP, GIF, JPEG2 and single page PDFs, among others) into JPEG. Using Automator I added the item "Convert to JPG" (an easy to create service) to the Context menu on the Mac.

To test it I have attached two images below:

Image 1 PNG
[attachment=4937]

Image 2 "Convert to JPG" using Mac Context Menu
[attachment=4938]

Please let me know if you can view them...

I'm running a MacBook Pro at home and iMacs at work. I have yet to notice any problem with any of Ben's splendid pictures. This is very odd indeed. Good luck with this Andrew, we certainly appreciate your efforts.

Hi Brian, nice to know someone can see them, I do put a little effort into them, so it's frustrating to think they aren't being enjoyed.

Hi Ben. I, too, am one of those folks who really enjoys your photos and (so far) have had no problem viewing them. I have an iMac running Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.8).

I use Firefox as my browser and don't even keep Safari in the dock anymore. Andrew contacted me earlier today (13 August 2012) asking me to check Safari on my computer for your photos. I had no problem seeing your beautiful pictures on either Firefox or Safari and both your PNG and JPG photos above are both looking good on Firefox.

I am not tech savvy at all so I don't know what is going on. However, if anyone can get to the bottom of the problem, Andrew can. Thumbsup

Hooray!!! I can see them all now. I don't know what you did Andrew, but all systems are go.

Ben, if it's easier on you, just stick with png. But jpg always works.

I wonder if the problem is browser specific?

If so then why was I able to see the photos on both Firefox and Safari. I believe it was Safari that was supposed to have caused the problem. Maybe it has more to do with The Shave Nook itself. Huh
