I am working on a few scent ideas for additional Asylum soaps. One of the scents that I am considering is Vetiver Bourbon. Should I make this a straight scent or should I blend it with something like Bergamot or Sandalwood?  I appreciate your opinions.

Phil, would you ever do a soap that smelled like the desert after a rain? To my nose, that smell after a rain is unique and quite wonderful.

Dear Phil;

It sounds great.  Straight or otherwise.

With sandalwood and a little pachouli (don't know the spelling in english, sorry) would be great too...

my 2 cents,

Pepe Peña

Le Pere Lucien made a Bourbon Vetiver as a limited edition a while back, and it's a great combination of scents, the sweetness of the bourbon balances out the greenness of the Vetiver. I'm not sure it needs anything more.

Vetiver "Bourbon" comes from the french island of Reunion,east of Madagascar.Its former name was Bourbon island.This name comes from the French Bourbon dynasty and was given to the island when Louis XIV was king of France during the 17th century.

The name of Bourbon whiskey has the same origin but there won't be any in this soap.There isn't any whiskey in the LPL soap either.

Maybe you could try adding some grapefruit acetal to enhance the vetiver fragrance,some cypress and a bit of musk.Something that would smell like Encre Noire from Lalique.

I would add a touch of the bergamot, but that's just me.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I now plan to come out with both a straight vetiver bourbon and a blended scent of Bergamot, cedar wood and vetiver. Stay tuned.

That's the approach I'd take as well.  I'd like to see a take on derby chop shop that is less sweet, with a fabulous bourbon scent and more wood.

I believe I'll be a buyer of the straight and leave the blend for others.
