If you like artisan shaving soaps made with top quality ingredients and a scent which is a mix of fresh citrus and deep herbal notes , you're lucky : the Cold River Soap Works Citron would delight your senses as well as provide you with a superb shave.

I find the presentation of this soaps top notch : from the plastic jar to the new white water proof stickers. They're simply elegant. You are getting a quality product with a quality presentation. The jar contains 4 oz of soap

It's texture is harder than the topical Italian "croap" shaving soap.I

This Citron soap belongs to the CRSW Premium line and this are its ingredients :

As you can read a serious combination of oils plus Tallow and Lanolin.

Making lather with this soap couldn't be easier.Using a Wet Shaving Products HMW Stubby shaving brush (another brilliant brush for its price).I load the brush for less than 15 seconds :

And this is what I get after one minute building up the lather , and no water added :

The lather is cushiony and extra slick. No surprise here due to the combination of oils like Avocado , Castle , Kokum , shea Butter etc and cushiony like the good Tallow based soaps usually are.

Skin protection is top notch.Yes , I do have a very dry skin , specially now in winter , but again , this soap works wonders with mine. Its protects my skin during the shave so after it doesn't feels any kind of dryness.Trust me , I appreciate that on a soap and I can use this with no pre Shave oil if I want to.

The scent is well develop , and it changes from the first notes to the deep ones.Opens with a fresh citrusy scent , very nice but not overwhelming and goes into a more herbal notes to finish with and earthy Vetiver note. Its a scent more suited for Spring and Summer , I would say and well balanced in every note. With the Asylum Neroli and Black Pepper , my two favorite scents that I have tried on the fresh side lately.

The soap cost 19 dollars but you're paying for quality : from the presentation to the ingredients and the scent.

As I said , if you like artisan Tallow based soaps , you're lucky. This new premium line of CWRS will bring you all that you're expecting of a top notch quality soap.

Wanted to place a bulk order for CRSW soaps. The Citron is out of stock unfortunately, so I'm trying to hold out. I currently have the lavish and it is my favorite soap in performance. Slickness and cushion are not paralleled by any other soap I have used.

Great to see you back Teiste, I have missed you, man !!!!!

CRSW shaving soaps are top notch - as close to a 10/10 as you can pretty much come.

I am a big fan of this soap base.  I also particularly like the scent of this soap.  I also like the scent of Tallow+Steel rainforest.  Does anyone else detect a similarity?

Same here, this soap base is fantastic. I've got the complete collection. Digging on the natural fragrances of them.

What is your opinion on all the scents? I currently have lavish and I like it a lot. It is a nice citrus/lavender scent. I'm looking to get others, but not really sure which ones I would like.

They are all great IMO. My favorite is Citron followed by Juniper, Cypress and Lavish. I have the Artica but I'm saving that one for warmer weather but it does smell very good from the tub. You really can't go wrong if you pick the ones that sound good to you from the CRSW website. The descriptions of the scents are pretty darn accurate, straightforward and not full of fluff. What you see is what you get.

Yet to try the newer soaps, have to say that CRSW soaps are of the highest quality, right up there with on favorites list

They are all quite good...but the universal favorites so far seem to be Citron and Lavish. Those would be my picks to start with.

Citron is my favorite. It's a classic scent with similar notes to Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet.

Nathan, how do you rate the new premium soap to past offerings?  I have Select v1 and I've read that the new soap is slicker.

You know, it's hard to say, as each iteration of CRSW has been spectacular.  There are two things I have noticed that I would say are different from Select V1.  The soap is much softer and loads more quickly than it did in Select V1 and I also find the lather to be very stable (not that V1 wasn't/isn't stable, but the new formula produces a very stable lather that can hold a lot of water.  So I guess that does kind of equate to increased slickness.
