Just to be clear I love the Asylum Evolution as is. But when I have time I love experimenting. The Evolution handle has a built in 10/32" ( not M5x08 ) stud or end screw that cannot be removed. It fits in very nicely through the base plate and screws into the top plate perfectly. So at that point this is basically the only handle you can use. Not exactly. What I did is get some set screws (with a head) in Home Depot and tried manually screwing into the Evolution head but it wouldn't go so I thought the head was tapped for 10/32" which is a tad smaller then M5x08. I manually tapped out the head with a tap and that worked perfectly. You have to lubricate the screw or else big trouble. I cut off the end head and that worked out very good. You can use an end ball set screw but for now I wanted to show the results. The handle is a one of a kind 90 mm aluminum handle made by Charcoal Goods. Total weight with head is 1.8 oz. I will shave with it and report back.

Very interesting for sure. Seems like a lot of work. Will the original handle still work or is that what the set screw is for?

Absolutely. I just unscrew the Charcoal Goods handle with the setscrew and use the Asylum handle. I did no modification to the handle or razor except tap out the top plate to m5x.08 . I was thinking of trying an iKon SE handle but it is a monster (very heavy).

Nice work! Interested in seeing what other handle ideas people come up with.

Interesting tinkering.  You'll tell us if the shave experience is better.  Personally, I find the handle to be an integral part of this razor and would not change get it.

The Charcoal Goods handle works very nice with the Asylum Evolution head. Using a Perma Sharp Super blade the shave was incredibly close and extremely smooth.

Thanks for the update Jerry.  Glad that the experiment paid off for you.  Is the new handle lighter and longer?

Length 90 mm (3.5") weight not sure probably 15 grams if that. With the handle and head weight only 1.8 oz.

Slantman,
So basically all standard handles with M5x08 opening wouldn't work with the razor without modification?
What's the stock handle weight without the head?
Thanks

If the top cap has been retapped to M5X8 how can the original handle still be used?...seems like it would be too large (by a bit) and also is the  screw insert used from the top down or from the handle up?
