With my newfound weight loss comes in a obsession with clothes and shoes. Wondering if anybody can give me any input on Allen Edmonds shoes etc.

Superb shoes and, in my opinion, the best along with Alden.

I have a couple of pairs of Allen Edmonds (Wing tips and Boots) and I highly recommend the company. Great looking and comfortable shoes/boots.

Allen Edmonds are good. I'm a big fan of Crockett & Jones and Trickers from the UK. They last forever.

From my dress for work days, I can echo the good marks AE gets but working at home, shorts, t-shirts and Birkentstocks make up my usual work attire. Rolleyes  P.S. Congrats on the weight loss, Justin!

Congratulations and now keep it off!!!

I've worn their shoes for years.    But funny thing:   I figured I'd replace my size 10C penny loafers with a new pair, and I ordered them from Zappo's.     They have never fit - too tight and I've tried stretching them, all of that.    I think I could have returned them a long time ago when I bought 'em, but I didn't.

I'm retired now and don't wear my business shoes much.   I mostly use comfy Ecco brand.     I still wear my old pair of Allen Edmonds penny loafers, though, with jeans,  and my lace-ups when I put my tutu on for dinner or an evening out.

PS If you're really obsessed, take a look at eBay for clothing and shoes at about ten cents on the retail dollar.    Plan on making some mistakes, but so what at that price?

Thanks for all the input guys. I seen some videos of the shoes years and years later and I love the patina on leather wallets and shoes. I also liked the fact some could be remanufactured.

I really love Allen Edmonds' shoes.  I prefer American-made shoes, not because of some nativist reason, but for two reasons: (1) its less taxing on the environment (and I know this marginal), but more importantly, (2) I prefer American dress shoe styles and profiles.  I tried to like Alden, and really wanted to because they are based about 50 miles away from me (even better for the environment), but they don't have the breadth and depth of styles and lasts that AE does.  I typically wear a 10.5 EEE dress shoe, but I prefer dress shoes with a wider toe box.  Alden's widest width dress shoes are still pretty tight for me.

AE of course makes slim and sleek (at least for American styles) shoes, like the Park Ave or the Strand, but they also make more generously sized shoes, like the Leeds.  They also make just about any kind of casual shoe and boot you want.  For instance, I have a pair of Park Aves, Strands, Leeds, Montgomerys, Wilberts, and Higgins Mills, and they cover all of my typical business and casual shoes.  Other than sneakers, snow boots, and flip-flops, you could probably wear nothing but AEs if you had the budget to do so.

The other thing I like about AEs are their ubiquity.  As a result, if you're OK with buying used shoes on eBay and stuff, you can get really nice shoes for cheap.  Aldens tend to be more exclusive and therefore fetch a pretty penny, whereas I have found AEs for less than $100.  Sometimes they need a little TLC, but for the most part, you can get them back to 100% with some polish and leather conditioner.  Finally, they have not only their own stores in many cities (we have two in Boston), but their Shoebank is a great deal for buying 2nd quality shoes.  My Wilberts are seconds and I couldn't tell you what is wrong with them to be honest.

If you want to wait to get a great a deal, usually AE has an anniversary sale in June, where their flagship shoes (typically a Strand or Park Ave and another shoe) are discounted really nicely.  Nordstrom also discounts two models during their June sale as well.  That's where I first bought my Park Aves and Strands over six years ago and they are still going strong.  No matter what, my recommendation is to go into a AE store, if you have one near you, and get fitted, even if you're not quite ready to buy.  Because of their different lasts and styles not all of their shoes fit the same.

I have a few pairs of AE dress shoes and really like them. I also have a pair of AE casual shoes and cannot stand them...the fit is a bit tight despite being the same size. I would recommend buying these shoes in person rather than on-line.

I love AEs. Great quality and styling, and as has been mentioned, they can be reconditioned. Yes, the lasts can fit differently, so figure out your size by trying on different styles in person and avoid disappointment.

I have 10 pairs all in all, some of them 15 years old. They get recrafted once and still fit and look line new with some TLC.
My first pick for dress shoes and a good value considering their "mileage".
I also recommend fitting at a store. They can be quite different depending on the "Last" they were made on, even if nominally same size/width.

agree 100%.

They make different "lasts" (soles) for different foot shapes and it would be very much to your benefit to have them "size you up".  They are high quality shoes and AE offers excellent customer service.  I also very much like Alden shoes as Ravi points out, and Lucchese boots.  Together, those three make up 90% of my shoe wardrobe.
