I've always used bulb shaped knots (usually 24 mm) and want to try a fan. I am thinking about a TGN finest badger knot in either a 22 mm or 24 mm. Generally speaking, if I normally like a 24 mm bulb knot, should I get a smaller size fan (22 mm)  or stay with a 24 mm knot? Also, please suggest loft sizes for these size fans for someone who likes at least medium backbone.  Thanks.

If you don't want to spend too much at first, i would recommend the Stirling brush in finest. It is a 24mm fan not and is very good. The loft is 50mm so there is sufficient backbone. I find this an excellent brush and is a real bargain for the price. If you want a more high end brush, look into Shavemac or Romera or Elite Razors.

I think the last 5 brushes I've bought have all been fan knots. I enjoy 26mm and above so I'm not sure about a 22mm or a 24mm but you can generally get away with a shorter loft with a fan with the splay you'll get after use.

If you are used to the feel of a bulb knot,

Fan will feel slightly floppy at the same loft a bulb is set at. Go a couple millimeters lower. It is not a huge difference but will feel slightly different. More splay.

I think the Stirling Soap Finest fan is nice, but I don't like how high the loft is. It's a great brush. It's not how I would have preferred it to behave though. I prefer bulbs though.
