6S arrived yesterday, too it for its first spin today.

Setup:

Plate 3
Blade:  GSB
Soap:  Stirling Piacenza
AS/Balm:  Stirling Piacenza

Initial impressions:

My first few strokes I didnt think I had the correct angle, and it felt like it wasnt cutting like it should.  Once I got it dialed in, the whisker reduction was what I would expect from the 3rd plate.  The 2nd pass was effortless, and I felt like I got somewhere between a BBS and DFS with 2 easy passes.  Couple things struck me about this razor:  1)  I rotate between keeping the sink basin filled with warm water and rinsing my razor off to clean, vs keeping my water running and rinsing that way.  The lather channels on this razor seem to clear better using the running water method.  Could've been the soap, but something to watch/keep on eye on moving forward.  2)  going back on a bare face to buff/clean up was MUCH smoother with this razor than any other I have ever used.  This step usually induces irritation for me, but not so with the 6s.

In summary, this was a very impressive 1st shave.  I am going to go to Plate #4 on Tuesday (my normal shave routine is Sunday, Tues, Thur) and explore the extra aggressiveness.  Having said that, Plate #3 would provide an outstanding shave experience for just about anyone (except some of us hardcore nuts on here).  This isn't anything groundbreaking that hasnt been discussed on here many times, just my initial thoughts on an outstanding piece of equipment.

Here it is on my Jurgen Hempel titanium handle:

Nice writeup.  Plate three with a GSB is my go to when I use the 6S.  A nice shaver.

I wish all the plates went in order on the flip side.

I use either 2 or 4 because I don't feel like digging through the drawer for #3 when I'm about to shave...

Nice review!  And consistent with my experience.  I've settled on #4 but will soon try #5 and #6 to see if they are "forgiving" upper end blade gaps.

You'll like them I think.

I was hesitant to try #6 but once I did I kind of felt silly for not trying it sooner than I did.

I like 4 and 5 even. 6 was nice but not an every day shaver for me. Very smooth despite the obvious efficient feel of it.

Thanks for a useful review.  I have yet to try this razor despite reading so many positive comments about it.

Thank you for the review, I use mine on 6, but I'm not a daily shaver. This little gem of a razor brought me back to DE shaving after a long spell with SE's. The built quality is impeccable and it looks like a more expensive razor. I'm so satisfied with it, I jumped on the soon to be released model T band wagon too.

Nothing beats my 6S. I use plate 4 with a Rapira Stainless blade exclusively. Best shave I could ever ask for... every time.

Amen to above...my 6s is one of my top three (above my BB) ...and if it were a bit more easy on the eyes and lighter in weight it would be game over for many many other DE razors

Though my BB still the top shaver, my Rockwell 6s comes dangerously close... for now it shares the second place with  Weber PH and SS Wolfman SB

The Rockwell is climbing up my list as well, after 6 or so very nice shaves, starting at 3, moving to 4, then to 6.  Very nice razor, esp. for the price.

Nice review. I've had my 6S for four months and it continues to perform as expected: wonderfully. Love the heft!

Update (disclaimer:  my normal shave week is Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday):

First week:  I went with plate 3 for a Sunday night and Tuesday night shave, and plate 4 for a Thursday night shave (all done w/ a GSB).  I felt a "greater" jump of aggressiveness from plate 3 to plate 4 than I thought I would.  Plan for this week is to start w/ plate 4 on Sunday (my day of the week with the most growth) and then back down to plate 3 for Tuesday and Thursday.

Plate 4 with a new green Astra on Sunday's shave was nothing short of incredible.  I normally do 2 passes, and the 2nd pass on this shave had a lot less "clean up" than normal.  Very smooth, and very comfortable.

I am testing different plates to get a feel for the razor, and see the differences as I go along.  I honestly think you could buy this razor, pick one plate, and be perfectly happy with the results you would get.  I have to say that I am having a lot of fun so far with all the different options, and its a fantastic piece of equipment and deserves all the love it gets on here.

Brad, I agree that many will land in the "find one plate and stick to it" spot with this razor.  Then again, I like the options you have with the Rockwell system and at a very fair price compared to the a la cart offerings of other manufacturers - and to be fair, I happily bought them as well!

I love my 6S. It is my favorite DE that I own. I am looking forward to the release of the T model in July

Nice review. I started with R3 it was very smooth but when I tried R4 it was fantastic. R5 is too aggressive for my taste so I am using R4. I did not try many blades (Astra, Rapira, Ladas, Polsilver) and I am using them for at list for 1 week (daily shaver) to find the best combination.
It was worthy purchase.

+1....in lean toward PermaSharps but get perfect shaves with almost any blade with the 6S.
