Recently, I have rid myself of many soaps that are just, meh (as in barely acceptable). My main comparison is MDC. I'm sorry, I know there are people out here that disagree with this. However, this is STILL the best performing soap for me (HANDS DOWN). Tried nuavia, too strong a scent and thick a lather. It's like taking a mud bath.

Any recommendations on soaps SIMILIAR to MDC would be much appreciated. I was so fed up with the other soaps I basically discounted them 50% off and now am left with only two. Good ole MWF and MDC.

Interested in the XPEC users out there as well.

Thanks!

In my book, the best performing soaps/creams are SMN v3, Castle Forbes, Mystic Waters, XPEC, and L&L Grooming Bison Tallow base.

My current favorite is Mystic Waters superlathered with XPEC.

Tiki bar soap and WSP formula T, with tallow added, are similar to MDC. I believe these soaps are better than MDC.

If you don't care for a thick lather, but still want something protective with great slip, Santa Maria Novella v3 or XPEC. Superb performers.

Hard to beat MDC and MWF.

I'd recommend Czech & Speake Oxford and Cambridge soap; CRSW Premium line and Floris #89 cream.

^ Agree with Ron, MdC and MWF is fantastic.

My top favorite soap is Haslinger Schafmilch, it never failed me. Easy to lather, slick and protective. It reminds me of MWF's performance but easier to lather.

It sounds like you are looking for veggie-based soaps if you prefer MdC, but you are on the other end of the spectrum if you also use MWF. Shy
It is a bit surprising that you found Nuavia to be 'thick' as mud as it is s a veggie-based soap with a bit of a 'lighter' lather, in my opinion compared to most tallow-based soaps.
Good luck.

Best soaps I've used

Midnight & Two
Tallow & Steel
Sudsy Soapery

These 3 seem to always stand above the rest for me personally, they score top marks for protection, slickness and post shave feel. I can't see you not being happy with these ones.

+1 . . . if I can be allowed to have two “top favorite” soaps.   Wink  (Mystic Water only-essential oil soap shares the “top favorite” soap rung on my ladder.)

C&S, NOS t-AoS, DRH to name a few (tallow soaps).
I Coloniali Mango doesn't create explosive lather, but the in/post-shave performance it gives is similar to that of the aforementioned soaps — and better than that of MdC, IMO.

Current XPEC is ok, but not as good as the first iteration. Personally, I prefer the classic English and AoS creams to (current) XPEC.

SMN is the joint but Boelis is very nice to. Light almond scent. Slick lather, great cushion and excellent post Shave feel.

Totally concur regarding Mystik Water. It's great soap at a great price. I've never tried MDC, just too pricey for me, but a new find is Barrister and Mann. I shave with a straight razor in addition to a double edge, and it's quite demanding of soaps. I use the B & M tallow based formulas. Strong scents, but nice, very complex and well thought out. What I particularly like about the B & M soaps is the lather. It's not muddy, but it has good cushion to it and extremely good glide. Saponifico Varesino, as mentioned below, is also a great double edge performer for me.

I could never make MWF work for me, but MDC is my benchmark soap - I own all five with a couple of backups. Smile The only soaps that are as satisfactory for me as MDC (in scent, performance, and post-shave departments) are:

CRSW premium
Tallow+Steel
Mike's Natural

Good luck with your search!

Wish I could recommend something for you, but.....

I hate MWF intensely after 5-6 years testing
I love Nuavia, love all 3 after a dozen shaves with them.......

Good luck in your search

My favorites are all tallow-based now - B & M is good, though scents need work.  MWF a great performer, though lathering requires some talent (or luck, haven't quite figured out which yet).  CRSW are all excellent, and Tabac.  Pretty much all the soaps in my rotation now, though I will super lather with all using some of my vegan soaps - TOBS & Catie's primarily.

Really want to try some Mystic waters and maybe some Stirling, but I've got a lot of soaps to deplete before I can justify buying anything new for awhile.
