What's everybody do with the lube strips if you use a brush and soap? These strips are getting like jelly on my face.

As in cartridge razors?  Can't help you with that combination of gear.  Tongue

I get rid of them. No need for them when you use a quality soap. They just clog the cartridges. In fact, I remove both the lube strips and the rubber fins beneath the blades, there is no need for any attachment in between the blade and my lather.

What brand of cartridges are you using?  Some are worse than others in terms of that jelly like lubrication from the strips.

Chaddy, have you tried a Vintage Eversharp Schick Injector Razor? It is basically like a cartridge with one blade and none of the stuff you don't want. Blades are cheap and they give wonderful shaves.

I always wandered from the long by days of my cart shaving, why is the lube strip on top before the blades. Obviously there it cannot lubricate the area being shaved, but right above it. What's the point?

I prefer twin blades without a lube strip. Nothing you can do with gel reservoirs on modern carts.
