I am a veteran shaver. Over the last few years I have gradually moved from DE to GEM and now to my new favorite, the ATT SE1. My beard is old and grisly (as is the person behind the beard).
I started with the Captain Kai Mild and I found it to be a very good blade for the SE1. A routine shave for me is a two pass with the second pass XTG. I would call the SE1/Kai Mild combination a moderately aggressive razor. Very efficient, if not very aggressive. Never have to worry about a mortal injury to my jugular vein.
For fun I purchased a sleeve of Feather ProGuard blades. I expected them to be more aggressive than the Kai. After a reasonable trial, I have mixed feelings about the ProGuard. They may be slightly more aggressive than the Kai (maybe not), but more importantly, I found the ProGuard to have a rougher quality about them. Not bad, and if I had never used the Kai I might not even have noticed, but I definitely prefer the face feel of the Kai to the ProGuard.
Given how I feel about the ProGuard, is there any reason to trial the Feather Pros? I know they are more aggressive than the Guard blades, but are they also smoother?
Cheers

I really enjoy my ATT SE1, and almost always used it with a Feather AC Pro, and occasionally with a Kai Captain. Both performed very well.
Then, to round off a purchase from a vendor to get free shipping, I ordered a pack of Pro Guards and Supers.
What surprised me was that the Pro Guards did not agree with me-felt rougher than the regular Pros, and left several blood spots (not quite nicks) on my face, something that doesn't happen with the AC Pros or Kais.
I was expecting a smoother, milder shave from the Pro Guards, but for me they didn't work in the ATT SE1. I may try them in some other SEs to see if it's the razor/blade combination or the blade.

I too found that the Pro Guards didn't particularly agree with my face. After trying a variety of blades I decided the the Feather Professionals worked the best for me and subsequently purchased them in bulk. I use them in all the AC blade razors.
Your experience may be entirely different. While discussing blades on these forums is entertaining, the only way to know for certain is to try different blades and find out what works best for you.

My favorite blade for the SE1 is the Kai Captain Originals - sharper blade than the milds, and just as smooth (maybe even smoother).
Just to be certain we are talking about the same blades, are these the Kai Captain originals?
