BullGoose Shaving has added an additional scent to the Asylum Shave Works Line. Old Virginia is a blend of Tobacco Absolute, Vanilla and Tonka Bean with a whisper of Oakmoss and Cedar.

The scent of the soap is mild but builds in intensity as you lather.

Phil you're on a roll with the Asylum soaps.  I'm enjoying Frankincense & Myrrh, and just ordered Royal Fougere and Old Virginia.

Does the tobacco note smell like loose cigarette tobacco (dry, earthy) or more like pipe tobacco (sweet)?

Matt, to me it's more like pipe tobacco.

I guess more sweet. The tobacco absolute is an interesting scent...I actually get a dark chocolate scent along with a nicotine scent and what smells to me like a fine cigar. This scent is then blended with Vanilla, tonka, oakmoss and a touch of cedar.

Well, after hemming and hawing all this time I took the plunge and ordered Old Virginia. Just finished shave one with it. Being that I have a general aversion to most scented products I find Old Virginia to be appealing. Honestly, I was hoping it would remind me of Marlboro Lights (haven't touched a cigarette in eleven years). It doesn't. Sweet tobacco is a good description. Cigar more so than pipe. All in all a nice addition to my rotation of scented soaps.

I've been using Old Virginia a lot, as it has become my favorite tobacco scented soap.  I initially thought of it as close to pipe tobacco, but now I've reassed.  I don't find this soap to have the sweetness typical of other pipe tobacco soaps on the market.  For me it's closer to a pure, dry tobacco scent, with just a hint of sweetness.  I've tried a lot of tobacco soaps and Old Virginia is the one which smells just like you would expect for tobacco.  With this soap, the tobacco is not lost in a mishmash of other notes.  It's almost like a single note scent.

Ricardo, through trial and error I've learned over the last few years that we have similar tastes relative to many shave accoutrements. Your opinions and posts are often a big factor in stimulating my various ADs. I appreciate that. Thanks, pal Wink

Finished shaving last night at 9:30ish. At 7:30 this morning, and even now, I'm getting the occasional whif of O.V.

Charlie, I've also found the scent lingers after the shave, in a nice subtle way.  It's a well crafted scent.  It has just enough sweetness to take the harsh edge off the tobacco, but not so much sweetness that the tobacco is lost.
