Some time ago I switched completely to face lathering, but I have recently noticed that my Kent BK2 isn't great for face lathering, mostly I suppose because it doesn't have a lot of back bone. From time to time I now bowl lather with the Kent. Anybody else bowl lather with that sort of brush and otherwise face lather?

A floppy brush is the result of less density and a higher loft. That means less backbone but greater flow, and it's that greater flow which makes it better for bowl lathering. A floppy brush is also softer, and can give a more luxurious feeling that many like. I face lather exclusively now. When I used to bowl lather years ago, I enjoyed floppy brushes, such as the Vulfix 2236.
