I just saw the new Casswell line at the New York Gift Show today. Not yet on their site and only in the new catalog which I have a copy of.

Due out in October will be Shaving Essentials by Casswell which will have three scents, Almond, Sandalwood, and Eucalyptus. Included is a face wash, pre shave oil, shave cream in tub and tube, after shave tube and shave soap. Also a sampler kit to get the brand going.

The line has been reformulated and improved performance is promised, so I was told at least. Made in the USA it looked and smelled great, I asked for samples but was told they did not have any. The rep stated it is a brush cream that will offer a better performance than the previous line.

Caswell-Massey sandalwood was my first shaving soap, and gave me more problems than any other product I've used. I'd still be willing to try a reformulation, as it smelled wonderful. If only it lathered as well... Thanks for the heads-up!

I loved the scents of Caswell-Massey products but the performance of their shaving soaps and creams was just about nonexistent. I'll wait to hear what others think.

Hope you're right, Joe. I like everything about C-M except the creams and soaps. If they were to get those figured out, they could be a major player again.

Well, except Jockey Club. I've cleared elevators with Jockey Club. I swear, based solely on the testimony of my own nose, neither JFK nor Marilyn ever liked that scent.

Oh no, I hope they've changed but I will not be testing until I read about 100 positive reviews.

I hope that they improve their shaving soap and cream. To be honest I don't think that they could make the soap any worse.

I like all the Caswell Massey products I've tried but never any of the shave ones.

Well I tried a CM soap (1992 make) and basically it did nothing for me as a shave soap so I PIFed it away. So I think I will sit this one out for a while because there is a lot on my testing list. I truly hope it works better.

I had a terrible experience with Caswell-Massey shaving soaps several years ago ... never again, as there are numerous superb options available from other manufacturers.

Caswell-Massey's Sandalwood Cologne is great! Eagerly awaiting reviews on the new soap. So far have seen none. Is this a bad sign?

I see them on the website now. They offer scents of Almond, Eucalyptus and Sandalwood in all the usual products. There is also a travel soap with a screw top lid but and that appears to be unscented. Also 30% off all soaps for a limited time.

Not sure of the vintage, but a gentleman on another forum just bought a tub of C-M from a brick and mortar, and said he would not create a decent lather. Perhaps it has not been reformulated yet.

Has anyone given the new shaving soap a try? If not, I'll bite the bullet and give it a go.

I would have tried it but the old formulation (if there has been a recent re formulation) was/is universally loathed. Just about every "terrible" product has its admirers (such as modern Williams) but C-M is all it's own.

It's a shame too because C-M should have the same reputation in the US as any other venerable firm. It has supplied US presidents from Washington on.

I tried the old formula Sandalwood, and it was the absolute worst performing shave soap I have ever attempted to use. But they have reformulated, and I'd like to see if they righted their wrongs. I will take one for the team and try it.
