This razor is a new DE razor made by Charcoal for West Coast. I have been moving toward single edge shaving lately. I am looking forward to the release of some of the new Gem blade razors. However, I saw this razor and had been hearing a lot about Charcoal razors and purchased it in a moment of RAD. I am not at all sorry for the purchase. The most outstanding part of this razor is the handle. about 1/4 down on the handle there is some very well don comfortable checkering. There are no sharp edges on the checkering and it is in just the right place for WTG and XTG passes. Furthermore, the checkering is in the perfect place to balance the razor perfectly. The handle has a flair at the bottom which offers an easy secure hold for the ATG pass. I was able to hold the razor upside down and complete the ATG pass with no worry of dropping the razor. The razor and handle are so well mated for each other that there is no need for excess pressure from your hand. The result of this design of the handle alone is a smooth comfortable close shave. The head also is well designed and balanced. I give this razor with this handle a definite thumbs up.
I can't seem to post pictures of this razor here

If you got them stored locally on your computer, try using the imgur button (white 'i' on a black square). If they are from the web, it could be that the site they are hosted on don't allow hotlinking.

The razor do sound very interesting, and I would like to see it Smile

For some reason the imgur symbol is missing from my computer on most threads. I will PM you with the pictures and perhaps you can post them. The button shows up on my PM site.

I have the same razor from WCS. These razors are made for WCS by a machine shop not Charcoal Goods however Brian did collaborate with WCS in designing these razors which are outstanding.

The write up on West Coast is a bit mis-leading. But it does not distract from the quality and design of this razor. The handle design and it's relation to the head of the razor is extraordinary.

Excellent method to share Charcoal Goods/Brian's design talents.  In-stock a welcomed bonus.

How would you rate the level of aggression? Is this similar or the same as a Charcoal Level 1?

Haven't used a Charcoal Level one. But It is more aggressive than a Feather AS D2 Slightly less aggressive Than an Asylum Evo. Similar to a Rockwell 6C with a #4 plate. Probably the closest comparison is the Rockwell wit a 4 plate but the Palm handle raises this razor to an exceptional level. However, I don't know how the other 2 handles perform. Hope that helps.

It is the exact copy of a Charcoalgoods razor and level 1 of a WCS or Charcoalgoods razor is identical in this case fairly mild. When Brian resumes his razor making in several months I will get a level 2 base plate from him and it should fit perfectly.  The machine shop that are making the razors for WCS have done an amazing job. The build quality is great.

That's good to know, I just sold a brass Level 1 and was tempted to pull the trigger on one of these. I can wait a few months, hope he makes a Level 3 in polished stainless.

How is the efficiency compared the 6c? I know the aggressiveness is comparable, but what about the performance? Thank you in advance!

For me I find performance of both essentially equal. Balance and handle design edge (Palm) goes to The Hollywood

Oops, I should have worded my post as to the plate. It mentioned that the aggressiveness was the same as the #4 plate, but is the efficiency the same?

If it's like the 6s on 4, that tells me it's pretty good. Thanks for info.
