I recently picked up a Merkur 34 in gold and I can tell that the chrome version is tad slicker on the face.

I am wondering if the gold is more pours, soft metal, or the lacquer on top of gold is tacky and it may need more use.  I used the same soap and new blade each time to make sure I am not biasing the delta.  The difference is small but noticeable.

Out of the materials out there which are the slickest for razor heads, Chrome, Aluminum, Titanium, Gold, Stainless, etc?

Thanks

As a wild guess after a beer, I would think the most "polished" would be the slickest.
Wild guess #2 and 2nd beer, I would think weight and head contact area would be factors.

Interesting question and worth seeing some controlled tests.

Are there any metals engineers among our members?  Without some expertise, we're going to be speculating here.

That would be nice to get an expert to shed some light.   My next razor was going to be a brushed stainless steel but I may have to rethink that idea after my little experiment!

I've heard Rhodium plating is the slickest.
