I received my Rocnel SE-G GEM razor today.  I normally wait for at least three shaves before reviewing, however in this case I felt compelled to post after only one shave.  Color me impressed!
Packaging : superb.
Finishing : beautifully built and finishing is impressive.
Feel : the razor has a nice heft and is solidly constructed.
Blade loading : easy enough.  I watched the video and followed instructions.
Shave : outstanding.  2-pass BBS seriously.  I have over 20 vintage GEM/Everready razors and have enjoyed them all.  This Rocnel combines the heft and solidity of the Streamline with the efficacy of razors like the 1924 or 1914.
Great job, Rocnel.  I look forward to seeing different versions of this fabulous razor!

Very good to hear.

One thing I appreciate about Rocnel is the packaging. I know I'm in the minority, but at this price point I think it matters and Rocnel is one of the few who still places an emphasis on it.

I'll likely wait until the second round given some other recent shaving purchases but don't know if I'll be able to hold out.

Moderately aggressive.
It's all about the blade, really.
This razor is smooth.

This razor is smooth.

To newbies .. key is shallow angle ie maintain head relatively parallel to face.
Also, hand strop GEM blade prior to first use.

Ravi, can you comment on how variable the blade exposure is from loading the blade? Is it possible for the blade to be loaded with more or less exposure? If so, is there a way to be consistent with the blade exposure? I ask because of the way the blade loads I don't see any blade stops and can't quite get a feel for how far forward or back the blade can sit and still get locked in with the set screw.

Thanks.

I loaded a blade tonight in anticipation of my shave in the morning and I don't see a way for the blade to move any far forward because of the design of the opening toward the top for the spine of the Gem blade. Very smart design by Rocnel.

Thanks for that info. I hadn't noticed that in the pictures. Since the blade loads from the front it seemed like you might be able to lock it in with some wicked blade exposure.

Don't listen to him newbies, instead do my way of hand stropping the blade by simply loading it in MMOC and attack that beard with bad intentions

That's a fantastic review, Ravi.

Never tried a GEM and I wasn't intending to buy this razor, but you've enabled me. Biggrin

Just ordered from Connaught. Hopefully, in my hands, tomorrow.
