I posted a recent thread and it included a photo of my basement workshop.  Based on some of the comments I began to think that my basement may be a little out of the ordinary.
This is how it started ... a wall-mounted little drill press, a wall-mounted mini milling machine, and a 12x36 Enco metal lathe.

So I took the little drill press - I watered it, fed it and made sure it got plenty of sleep ... and it grew up into this Dayton!  Also in this photo is a Lincoln Mig welder and my Oxy-Acetylene welding rig.  Oh - and a shaper table - like a router table on steroids.

It worked for the mini-drill press - so I watered the mini-milling machine, sprayed it with some 'magic oil' and it grew into a 1954 Bridgeport vertical milling machine (with an M head)  you can also see the Boyar Schultz surface grinder on the left and my table saw in the foreground.

Continuing on - Belt sander, pedistal grinder, air compressor, and sand blast cabinet ...

Work table and a 2x72 belt sander/grinder ... hand and power tools etc.

I mentioned that I wanted to try blacksmithing ... the 75 lb anvil is on the floor, and a rack of metal and projects in various stages of completion.

This is half the basement ... the other half has the riding mower and lawn and garden stuff.   My wife doesnt know it yet ... but when we build a garage, or I get a shed big enough to get the lawn and garden stuff out, all my wood working stuff is going in the other side with another large work table .... and I will take over that half of the basement as work space too .... Mu-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha ..... (evil laugh!)

I got some of it at auction ... more the wood working stuff.  I was at an estate auction and got both the Craftsman shaper and the Craftsman table saw for about 150.00 for the pair.  No one seemed to know what the shaper was and it was dirt cheap.  Then the box of Craftsman bits were bundled with another lot and I didn't want to compete for them ... I made a 'side deal' with the winner and got the bits there too.

A guy on Craig's list was selling the 4x6 metal band saw because it 'wasn't working' ... as you can tell, I like to tinker about ... so I bought it for 50.00.  The set screw was  loose.  I tightened it up and I was good to go ... I felt like a thief!  (not really - I gave him what he asked for it and it could have been major-  rather than minor)
