I had an idea for a brush -

My great-grandmother was German and died in a small town named Camburg January 1, 1919.  This was after my great-grandfather Max Hoffman was killed on the eastern front (WWI) July 16th 1915.
My grandmother then left for the US with her grandmother (my great-great-grandmother)

I wanted to commemorate my heritage in some way, and who better to make a German-themed brush than Rudy (Rudolph) Vey?

I wanted a red, gold and black handle, (I have a knot to mount)
I sent him a couple concept pictures I cobbled together in photoshop

Here's the first idea

The idea was an hourglass design ... Rudy said he didn't have the mold to make vertical stripes.

I said OK ... and since the gold band is on the bottom of the German flag ... I wanted the brush end to be the gold/yellow - that way when it's in the brush rack - the colors are correct.  So I sent him this ....

We worked out hole diameter and depth and he got to work ...

In not too much time, and for what I consider a very reasonable price ... Rudy provided his PayPal email address and I paid ... should be on the way after the holiday.  I can't wait to set the knot and upload a photo of the finished product.

That is a beauty. You must post again when the knot is in place. Congrats.

Rudy does great handles and is a pleasure to work with.   By the way, I think it looks better with horizontal, rather than vertical, stripes

Funny you mention that - when I first approached him with my project, he said that it was curious, despite having been born in Germany, he never did a brush with a German theme.  But I bet once started, he DID enjoy it.  And - who better to get the colors of the German flag correct, than a German!    Smile

I have always liked horizontal stripes.  Nice brush and handle shape looks easy to grip.
