Or not?? In the past have made my share of real pre-ban ivory brushes. Ivory is such a classic material for shaving brush handles.

But I have not made an ivory brush for many years; mainly because of the unclear law situations.
Finally a new imitation ivory material was developed which looks, feel and can be worked (turned, sanded and polished) like real ivory. Even the typical markings are found in the material. It has the same feel and approx weight of real ivory. I just received my first samples Friday and made a classic Persian Jar today from it (knot is a two-band Manchurian White, 24x48 mm). Check it out:
the first two pictures show the new material, the last one is from the past and shows the bottom end of an ivory brush.

OK, pictures uploaded, just forgive an old guy (or as some call me computer tard)....
This material is really amazing! Feels and works truly like real ivory. So, now I can make an ivory brush handle without any guilt feeling....

Rudy, that rod material is quite attractive! Is it available in a sufficiently large enough diameter to accommodate a 26+ knot?

That is a possibility as it comes in several sizes.

I bought a Rooney 2/1 Finest 8 years ago in faux Ivory which has the same graining/veining as your PJ.

Yes, has the characteristics of mammoth, not elephant or marine ivory. The the 'peaks' in the cross-hatching... like "W"s...

Both the Faux Ivory and thry real ivory are fantastic examples, Rudy! I really like it.

I have one of Rudy's ivory brushes that he made. I'm going to have to remember about that material as it looks quite nice!

Rudy has his own 2-band knots now as well?
